In the world of bad '50s teens-run-amok films there are few better than High School Confidential. Starring Mamie Van Doren, this film about teenagers doing drugs, racing cars and carrying on was a perfect vehicle for Jerry Lee's new song. The opening scene of the film had Jerry Lee and his band playing on the back of a truck with the huge sign 'Pay less at JERRY LEE LEWIS' music truck. Records at wholesale- or nearly free'
While he parks in front of the high school he's wailing out this title track while the kids pour out of the school like a stomped-on anthill and begin gyrating wildly all around. Whew!
Alas, this would be Jerry Lee's last big hit for quite a while. For just as the record was cresting at #21, the word got out that Lewis had married very young, very close, and the public outcry was immediate. This single of "High School Confidential" was his last ever pop chart hit, and he'd be three years time before he got back into the C&W charts.
THIS RECORD IS FROM JUNE OF 1958 – A FULL YEAR AFTER MOST COMPANIES HAD STOPPED PRESSING 78rpms. IT’S ALMOST NEVER SEEN AS A 78 AND IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT OF JERRY LEE’S PLATTER TO FIND LIKE THIS.
