JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR w/ IAN GILLAN (DEEP PURPLE) 1972 UK MCA MINT
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTARA Rock Opera
1972 UK MCA (MKPS 2011/12) PRESSING OF THE 1970 PREMIER RECORDING OF JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR: A ROCK OPERA
WITH DEEP PURPLE'S IAN GILLAN TAKING ON THE TITLE ROLE
SUPERB COPY WHICH LOOKS ONCE PLAYED AND SOUNDS LIKE NEW
This original recording (released before the show was ever staged) has a rock flavour that is very different from Webber's later work.
This is due in part to the emotive singing of Murray Head and Ian Gillan and the playing of well-known rock session musicians.
The musical arrangements are often multi-layered (with synthesisers and effects), featuring rock and classical elements, and contain many abruptly shifting dynamics and progressive time signatures. This is the definitive version of the work
