The year was 1978 when a young man walked into the Guitar Center on Sunset
in Hollywood looking for a synthesizer. He didn't have much money. The salesman
pointed out the Korg 770 (monophonic - looked fairly simple to play - right price range)
and the young man replied "I'll take it!". After a quick look in the back stock room, the
salesman said "Sorry, we are all out of stock, but I can sell you the floor sample".
Without hesitation the young man said sure. He bought it and took it home and
discovered a wonderful, glorious thing: the PORTAMENTO switch! Flipping
the portamento switch gave a combination slide siren/dive bomber sound effect
which led to the inspiration for the "hook" in the song Love Punched Me Out.
And the rest is history (well, at least minor history - ha ha)!!!
By the way, the flip side "A.M. Music" is a lost power pop treasure as well.
