Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have aquired over the past 45 years or more! This album was purchased from new and initially only ever played once to record to tape and then stored in a box with the vinyl separated from the sleeve and cover for protection. This is how I have always stored my records. The vinyl looks Unplayed in my opinion, I struggle to see any spider marks at all around the spindle hole! This is complete with the original 1st issued un-laminated gate fold cover and original booklet! Impossible to find like this after 43 years! Just try to find another in this top condition!

Hear the stunning audio in the player below! Actual recording from the vinyl!
Note: Player can be played on pcs and Apple devices but not on some Android devices.

A Passion Play
is the sixth studio album by Jethro Tull, released in July 1973 in both UK and US. Like its predecessor, Thick as a Brick (1972), it is a concept album comprising individual songs arranged into a single continuous piece of music (which is split into two parts on the original vinyl LP release).

The theme of the concept is apparently the spiritual journey of one man (Ronnie Pilgrim) in the afterlife. In the original tour to support the album, three videos were used: one for the intro of the play, a second for "The Story of the Hare Who Lost His Spectacles", and a final shot passage to conclude the act. The whole of the concert was probably the high-water mark of Jethro Tull's elaborate stage productions.

A Passion Play initiated when the band resolved to move to France, in the Château d'Hérouville studios - known in the 70's for being frequented by artists such as Pink Floyd, Elton John and T. Rex. The move was motivated to escape high British tax rates. The original idea was to make a double album, the logical next step from Thick as a Brick.

The concepts varied as the meaning of life ("Skating Away"), critics ("Critique Oblique"), and the comparison between the man and animal world ("Animelee" and "Law of the Bungle"). Although enough material was recorded to fill three sides of the intended double album, problems in the studio and discomfort of the band members made Ian Anderson discard the songs and start from scratch.

Little of the material was re-used in A Passion Play, with the notable exception of "Critique Oblique" which was adapted to the new concept. Some of the material would later be used in the War Child album, like "Skating Away" and "Only Solitaire."

A Passion Play borrows its title from a traditional type of play depicting the Passion of Jesus Christ, though the title is evidently ironic, since the album appears to reject Christian theological conclusions.

A Passion Play is described in its album liner notes as though it were a theatrical "play" in four acts. Of this album, "the lyrics themselves are extremely complicated, the story is often unclear, and much is left to the individual's interpretation." Knowledge of the characters and setting actually comes less from the music itself and more from the few brief words in the satirical, six-page Linwell Theatre "programme" included in the original album packaging, which names Rena Sanderone (an anagram of "Eean Anderrson") as the author of A Passion Play.

A basic narrative plot can be loosely interpreted from the lyrics, liner notes, and "theatre programme" of A Passion Play, centering on everyman protagonist Ronnie Pilgrim, who is named only in the album's programme.

The Vinyl

This is the original and heavier and thicker \ deeper grooved type of vinyl only found on these early pressings! Later press were much more flimsier and less robust.

On initial visual inspection the vinyl playing surface is superb and it is hard for me to see that it has been played at all. The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable (Note, I have double checked this there is no warping),  and still retains its original sheen from new and looks absolutely superbe, In fact it is hard for me to even see any scratches on the surface at all,, at least nothing that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops.  Any other marks that could possibly be seen angled to strong light would be light whyspy sleeve removal type scuffs only! Importantly I can see (no) needle or audio sounding marks that would cause loud annoying constant clicks or pops! Note: This vinyl has only ever been played two times, incredibly rare after 43 years.

The audio quality

I have played this vinyl track for track two times at very loud volume prior to this listing, on a top system  In my opinion it is obvious to me that visualy and audibly from the moment that the needle hits the playing surface that this vinyl has brely ever been played in my opinion.  The audio is clear sharp and very vibrant through out! Stunning top Near as Mint audio throughout on my systems Note! This features the earliest possible "1" to "1" Mother stampers on both sides for the best possible audio quality on vinyl in my opinion!

The audio is awesome crystal clear and vibrant through out! Please note! With (no) signs of distortion or any signs of grooveware! Being the original 1st UK makes this one of the most vibrant sounding vinyls of this pressing that I have heard, such as real pleasure to play. Any static/tic heard is isolated and heard only in quieter places.

Please look at my completed listing of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! THOSE WHO KNOW ABOUT THE RECORDS THAT I LIST WOULD KNOW THAT MY PRIME INTEREST IS THE AUDIO QUALITY IT IS MY OPINION AFTER PLAYING THIS ALBUM  THE AUDIO IS GRADED AT THE TOP!  Near Mint Audio Quality!

Please take the time to listen to the complete album in the player above digitally recorded and is much more unforgiving than analogue systems but a good way to hear any imperfections in my opinion!  I would grade the audio at  near mint in my opinion!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this album and those who know the listings and vinyls that I sell my prime interest is the audio quality! Please allow for the odd isolated minor static/tic not consistent  through out the audio!  This is a genuine (not) reissue vinyl that is 43 years old and would have been played on a system that is 43 years old!

Please note, this album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 43 years or more. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static\ crackle. A constant clean before each play is recommended. This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality.

Points to note, I notice debrit on the playing surface after play so this will need cleaning before each play which will further enhance this audio quality.

The labels

These feature the 1st issued Chrysalis labels (only 1st press) These are in superb almost as new condition in my opinion. Amazingly I struggle to even see any real spider traces even when angled to the light. This has obviously barely ever been played at all and certainly not over played in my opinion.  No spindle ware around the the hole this is perfectly round. (UK pressing)

The cover

This is the 1st issue, 1st UK un-laminated Chrysalis gatefold cover Printed in England  Amazingly no nasty storageware worth noting. A barely noticed very minor thumb crease on each side only. No rubbing wear absolutely beautiful. Super square near perfect spine! Any m,arks or indents you would have to look hard to notice in my opinion.  I would grade this cover at least excellent plus To Very Near Mint in my opinion.

The record sleeve

This is the original white paper sleeve "Made In England" minor light general creasings/staing/fading with age. (see photos) No splits or tears!

The Booklet

This is complete with the orginal booklet in superb condition and still located in the middle of the cover tabs which is how this has always been stored. (Light indent marks from the tabs only to mention) (See Photos)

I have had 100% positive feedback since I have been trading on ebay for the last 10 years, so please bid with total confidance
