JETHRO TULL'S 4TH ALBUM FOLLOWING THEIR PREVIOUS LP ''BENEFIT''

As with "Benefit", Jethro Tull had moved onto the Chrysalis label from Island, but not quite fully yet, but "Aqualung" as a 1st pressing was still very much an Island record. Later in the early 70's Island did indeed release "Aqualung," invoking their rights to do so under a leasing agreement with Chrysalis, begun back in 1968 with "This Was." That later issue was on the pink rimmed/palm tree label, leading to a wrong assumption it was the first, but it most certainly wasn't. As ever in this 1971 period, EMI pressed Island's first issues so identification of the pressing sequence becomes simple and also conclusive for the vinyl.  "Aqualung" was recorded in Island's London Studio, as previously stated Island's first pressed records were made by EMI so this pressing can accurately be placed using EMI's stamping codes. This has EMI's/Island's correct maitrix endings for a 1971 first pressing, - A - 1U / - A - 3U. Then there's the 3 & 9 O'clock stampings found in the run-out grooves of ' 0H 1 / HH 1,' they clearly show both sides were pressed from the first mother made indicated by the '1' digits. In other words a first generation from the master tapes and also very low in the actual pressing sequence of those very first made records. Island not Chrysalis distributed this record, so only first issues have Island's ''ILPS 9145'' catalogue number on the back's top right corner of the cover and on the spine. Also required is ''E J Day'' printing credit on the bottom of the back cover which is present here. Island's catalogue number of ''ILPS 9145'' and ''Manufactured and distributed by Island Records Ltd'' is printed on the top rim with their famous white ''i'' Island logo on both sides as called for.

THIS IS QUITE SIMPLY A STUNNING VERSION OF THIS LANDMARK LP!
