JETHRO TULL
“THIS WAS”
MEGARARE and HARD TO FIND original very first “STEREO POPULAR” press released by Reprise Records, made and distributed in Chile in 1969 by Philips Chilena S.A. (Philips Records), licensed from Warner Bros. Records, Inc., through Reprise Records, USA, catalog number RS-6336, with hand etched matrix numbers 30867 RS 6336 A -1G A in Side 1 and 30868 RS-6336 B -1D ° in Side 2, with traditional tricolor Reprise “Steamboat” Records labels. Yes, Sirs, WHAT A FIND!!! Another extremely rare Chilean press of a great classic rock album!!! It’s very interesting to notice the early stampers in this Chilean press!!! WOW!!!
“THIS WAS” is the debut album by Jethro Tull, originally released on Island Records in 1968 in the UK and on Reprise Records in March 1969 in the USA, and the same year, 1969, we got this album released here in Chile and like usual those years the cover in Chile is UNIQUE, made of a very thin cardboard or thick paper folded in the middle, faking a gatefold cover, so 3 sides are open and kept together for an outer plastic bag. Well, that’s the original Chilean cover, but this time I found this record with an UNIQUE handmade artwork!!! OK, this is not a work by Van Gogh, Dali or Banksy, but someone took the time to draw and paint this cover, using another Chilean cover of the period, and I think it was a nice work. In back cover someone added the tracklist written in Spanish, translated to English, with full credits for songwriters. In labels the album title is written in English only and the tracklist is written in Spanish, translated to English, with full credits for songwriters and producers, and additional information about licenses. It’s interesting to notice an error, in labels it’s informed the record is produced by Terri Ellis and Jethro Tull for “CRYSALIS PRODUCTION, LTD.”, they misspelled the word “CHRYSALIS”!!! So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE PRESS of this classic rock album, A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Jethro Tull and this time with an UNIQUE HANDMADE PICTURE SLEEVE!!! Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from this side of the world!!!
The cover is in nice EX or EX+ condition, clean and clear, complete, with minimal wear in edges, more evident in corners, with evident age browning in the papers with the tracklist in back cover. The record is in superb VG- or VG condition, glossy and clean, with many scuffs, soft hairlines and light scratches of all sizes and in all directions, which don’t affect play. Labels on both sides are in EX or EX+ condition, clear and clean, with only minimal spindle hole wear, a writing in Side 1 and some faint blemishes, more evident in Side 2. The sound is in strong VG or VG+ condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with soft constant crackles and some occasional light clicks here and there, more evident in song “Some Day The Sun Won’t Shine For You” and in the silent parts between tracks, which of course don’t cause major distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. I’d recommend a deep vacuum cleaning anyway. Overall, a MEGARARE PRESS released in Chile with UNIQUE ERRORS (“CRYSALIS”), with EARLY STAMPERS and with UNIQUE HANDMADE PICTURE SLEEVE, maybe not for Minty minds or audiophiles, but sure with still a great glossy look, almost immaculate labels and still with a great sound quality after 48 years, which won’t disappoint anyone!!! A record to sit, listen and enjoy, an AMAZING FIND FROM CHILE AGAIN!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

_________________________________________________________
We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.
MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.
NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.
EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK
We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
