Jethro Tull : Thick As A Brick A-3U / B-2U Genuine 1st Press 1973 Chrysalis
This first pressing plays to a very high standard with only minimal background.  There are no clicks or pops and the only 'intrusion' is some light static here and there but there is not a lot I hasten to add!  A handful of light ticks also.  Overall though the clarity, depth and power of the audio is very impressive and there is nothing that really stands out.  The vinyl itself is very clean with only one small mark on S2.
The famous textured 'newspaper' cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear and all the inner pages are perfectly intact.  The original inner sleeve is in excellent shape also.
This is a genuine first press as denoted by the matrix info and the Island logo and rim text on the labels.
CHR 1003  //  A-3U   AG 1   PORKY (etched)   ---   B-2U   AT 2   PECKO (etched)
The audio on S1 ranges between Near Mint & Mint- with a couple of brief Ex+ sections
The audio on S2 ranges between Ex & Mint- (more of the latter!)
The 'newspaper' cover is a very strong Ex   The original inner sleeve is Ex+
The Chrysalis labels are Near Mint
Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a strong glossy look with no scratches.  Under a bright light I can see some faint superficial hairlines and one small 'thumbnail' mark at the beginning of S2 but this has no affect on the audio.  There is no groove or surface wear and the green Chrysalis labels are very clean with only very minimal spindle wear.
Play Grading
The acoustic intro on 'Thick As A Brick' has only minimal light static, nothing intrusive, and the beginning of the first vocal is the same.  The rest of this opening vocal section is more or less perfect with only a couple of minor statics.  As Barlow comes in the audio is superb and the next quieter vocal / instrumental is extremely clean with hardly any static.  The segue into the next section is stunning - it plays with great depth and power and Anderson's next vocal is 'as new' as is the following instrumental.  S1 runs at over 22 minutes so it would be difficult to detail each section.  A quick summary though - the vast majority plays with stunning clarity and depth.  There is one quieter section just beyond the halfway mark that has a little static but again it's not loud and hardly intrusive and in fact the more I play it the more I am impressed!  From start to finish there are no clicks or pops and the instrumental passages in particular are superb!  The staccato end section keeps up the good work and the 'wind' outro has only minimal static.  You can see where the 'progressive parody' is with this section.  Overall I would say S1 ranges between Near Mint and Mint with a couple of brief Ex+ sections.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 'wind' intro on S2 plays so well with barely any background and the first piece of 'music' is much the same.  The opening vocal section is loud and clear.  The long instrumental including the percussive sections (more parody!) then plays with sublime clarity and definition.  A couple of brief 'silences' follow and again there is very little background.  The acoustic section / next vocal plays with great clarity and it continues in much the same way.  There is some background static during one section around the 8 minute mark but again it isn't loud.  A handful of light ticks also.  The staccato mid section plays so clearly with barely any static and the following vocal section is perfect.  The remainder plays to a very high standard and the 'Childhood Heroes Reprise' is a prime example of that.  Reprise?!!  Nonetheless this entire section plays with great quality and for once there is barely any inner groove distortion.  There are a couple of ticks during the acoustic end section but overall it's a strong finish.  I will grade this side as ranging between Ex and Mint- I think that is a fair assessment of the audio.  More of the latter though!
The 'Newspaper' Cover & Inner Sleeve
The textured cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear and nothing obvious stands out.  The edges are very clean and only the fold has a little wear at each side plus one small mark just below it on the left side.  The corners are in excellent shape overall with only a little wear in the top left corner and a small 'bend' in the top right one.  The opening edge has hardly any handling wear.  The front cover is very clean with a couple of very small faint marks near the top right corner and the back cover is incredibly clean without any marking.  Just noticed one very small tear on the bottom edge, nothing major.  The inside pages are in superb condition with no marking and only the dot to dot picture on page 6 has been 'completed'.  The crossword has not been filled in!  Overall this is a fine example of this iconic cover and is not often seen as good as this.
The original die-cut inner sleeve is in excellent condition with no side splits or tears or marking.  It just has a little creasing here and there.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
