 Ultra RARE 1964 South African only LP of Jim Reeves entitled Souvenir Album, pressed on the classic black and silver RCA Victor label (16.002) This LP is best known for being made on the very seldom playing speed of 16 ? rpm and contains 30 tracks!! (refer to the labels for the list of songs) Here’s some small trivia on this :

During the early 1960s, Jim Reeves was fairly popular in South Africa, even to the extent of recording several songs and one full album in the Afrikaans language – a language that is still spoken by a great number of especially white South Africans today. Reeves released 3 full albums at 16? rpm speed, an unusual playing speed that was better suited for spoken word recordings. This was obviously discontinued with quick effect, however there have been a number of artists that created LP’s at this speed in the country (source partly from Wikipedia)

The cover is in VG- condition. Looking at the front, there’s nothing much to flaw besides light ring-wear. Colours and edges are just as good as you would have got them in the 60’s! However the back does exhibit noticeable ring-wear, few brownish smudge/rub marks/discoloration spots. But the good news is all the text is clearly readable (with interesting text to read J) A VG- is very accurate for this sleeve.

The vinyl, very surprisingly for its age, is VG+ to EX condition. In all fairness, it borders more on the EX grade, the VG+ is being conservative. A really great sheen is still retained on the whole surface, and the edges of the vinyl are still sharp, an indication this may have been handled a few times. The centre labels are also excellent besides very faint spindle wear on Side 1 only.

A very good copy overall, for the serious, true Jim Reeves vinyl connoisseurs worldwide!!
