THIS ITEM COMES FROM THE INCREDIBLE, SINGLE-OWNER COLLECTION WE ACQUIRED A WHILE AGO, IN WHICH ITEMS ORIGINALLY BOUGHT BY THE OWNER FROM THE MID-'60s to THE MID-'70s WERE KEPT STILL SEALED IN A NEAR-LABORATORY, TIME-CAPSULE CONDITIONS AND IN PRACTICALLY CLIMATE- AND HUMIDITY- CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT.  CONDITIONS OF SOME OF THESE ITEMS RANGE FROM IMPECCABLE TO TRULY UNBELIEVABLE. SOME OF THESE BEAUTIFUL MUSEUM PIECES LOOKED SO PERFECT THAT WE HAD TO REINSPECT AND RE-EXAMINE THEM A FEW TIMES TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT RECENT REISSUES (REST ASSURED THEY ARE NOT -- THESE ARE ALL 40-50 YEAR OLD STILL SEALED ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSINGS AS YOU MAY NEVER FIND AGAIN!!)

OK, we can practically hear you say: "What the XXXX is this [expletive deleted] talking about???? Of course this isn't original first British presssing of Jimi Hendrix's ground-breaking first album?   What a crook!"

AND YET, DEAR FOLKS, , THIS IS PRECISELY WHAT IT IS: THE MEGA-RARE,  TRUE FIRST, TRUE ORIGINAL, TRUE STEREO, TRUE BRITISH AND TRULY STILL SEALED TRACK RECORDS PRESSING OF THE JIMI HENDRIX'S FIRST ALBUM - ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ALBUMS IN ROCK HISTORY. 

This is what happened: Track records did not release the stereo version of this album for MORE THAN FOUR YEARS after the mono version was released in the UK (1967).  Mono version was the only version available in the UK between 1967 and 1971, when Track Records (Hendrix' original UK label) went back to the original multitrack masters and remixed the album in gorgeous true stereo (many Hendrix afficionados claim that the original UK stereo version is in every way superior to the UK mono mix, an argument we hear and understand, but we are not entirely sold on);  And when Track did, finally, release the album in stereo in the UK, the label did so on its "Backtrack" budget imprint and with a very generic, cheap$hit cover that does no justice to the incredible music that comes inside of it. This is the pressing we have here: the original British stereo pressing of 'Are You Experienced'. You may now consider yourselves fully and completely experienced!

It should be note that Track records did, later in its history (circa 1975) issue one final true stereo pressing of this title, on the black and silver "Polydor series" Track label; however, these very late reissues came almost four years AFTER this, original British stereos, and are easily identifiable as shoddy late- '70s reissues. You are looking at a REAL THING here, not one of those lousy reissues from the Polydor era.

One of the most stunning debuts in rock history, and one of the definitive albums of the psychedelic era  On Are You Experienced?, Jimi Hendrix synthesized various elements of the cutting edge of 1967 rock into music that sounded both futuristic and rooted in the best traditions of rock, blues, pop, and soul. It was his mind-boggling guitar work, of course, that got most of the ink, building upon the experiments of British innovators like Jeff Beck and Pete Townshend to chart new sonic territories in feedback, distortion, and sheer volume. It wouldn't have meant much, however, without his excellent material, whether psychedelic frenzy ("Foxey Lady," "Manic Depression," "Purple Haze"), instrumental freak-out jams ("Third Stone From the Sun"), blues ("Red House," "Hey Joe"), or tender, poetic compositions ("The Wind Cries Mary") that demonstrated the breadth of his songwriting talents. Not to be underestimated were the contributions of drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding, who gave the music a rhythmic pulse that fused parts of rock and improvised jazz. Many of these songs are among Hendrix's very finest; it may be true that he would continue to develop at a rapid pace throughout the rest of his brief career, but he would never surpass his first LP in terms of consistently high quality. The British and American versions of the album differed substantially when they were initially released in 1967.

(c)             The record is  apparently pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a MINOR, BARELY DISCERNIBLE "wavy" (curly) warp across the front panel ; this will have absolutely no effect on the record. 

-        [PLEASE NOTE: "wavy" warping on vintage British imports sealed by their American importer for distribution in the U.S. is almost universal, as British imports were slightly wider than American covers, and  the American sealing machines could not accommodate their width and height, compressing the wider UK to the slightly tighter American shrink wrap; this will self-correct after the shrink wrap has been removed and the cover properly stored for awhile]
