Hi, I am a private collector selling part of my collection.
I will use visual and audio gratings. I have been a collector for many years and know how disappointing it is to receive a record that has not been properly graded. I hope to be very accurate as regards the audio as well as giving details of any hairlines/scratches on the vinyl. I will use the Record Collector Grading System and supplement this with additional information. Every record is play tested on my Linn LP12. The record for sale is the first UK pressing of 'BAND of GYPSYS' by Jimi Hendrix. The record was released in England on the 12th June 1970.
The matrix numbers are Side one: 2406002 A1 113 Side two: 2406002. B1 113
This is a very sought after record as a first UK pressing.
This cover is very collectable as it was only issued for a short time so I want to give a lot of detail on the cover. The first thing I will say about this cover is that from the photos it appears that the spine has been flattened but this is not the case . The writing on the spine has been offset so that it Is more visible on the front of the cover than on the actual spine. This is the way the cover has been put together. I have shown close up photos of the spine and the writing to show this more clearly. (See photos 3, 4 and 5 ) From the photos of the spine text you can see that there is only a little of the text that has suffered from any rubbing. The actual spine is excellent with very little to fault. It also has the 'pinched' endings. (See photo 6) There are some tiny rubs to the top right and bottom right corners of the front of the cover (Photo 7). There are two half moon creases near the opening. There is some standing wear on the bottom edge. Overall the cover is very clean with no real handling marks to speak of. The back of the cover has some scratch type marks visible when angled to the light (see photo 8 ). They are not obviously visible but I mention them because the back of the cover is in really nice condition. There are no handling marks only a few tiny crease lines leading from the spine. Study the photos carefully as I have tried to show it in detail. I would grade this cover as EXCELLENT.
Visually the vinyl looks very close to MINT. In strong light I cannot see any marks/hairlines on the vinyl. It looks superb. I took a careful play test on my Linn LP12. Both sides of the record were near faultless. All I heard was a few light 'ticks' in places but overall there was nothing to fault the sound. I would have to grade the audio as NEAR MINT.
The black 'Track' labels show up any marks very clearly so it is easy to see any spindle marking.
There are about 4 to 5 spindle traces on each label.
This record has not been played much.
The poly-lined inner is In beautiful clean condition with just the record shape shown. It is date coded on the bottom right ( 0670 ) ie. June 1970.
