The famous "Puppet Sleeve" for less than £100! in VGC+ wow
Please note that this album is complete and original 1st UK Black Track pressing and is priced for its rarety and attraction to collectors rather than for its condition
this is nearly a 50 year old vinyl 1st pressing!
Original 1970 UK First Press A1 B1 Black Track Pressing , with 'Band Of Gipsies' credited on the label, housed in the legendary Matt 'puppet' sleeve, puppets by Saskia De Boer.
A fine specimen of this hugely collectable Hendrix rarity.
Rare withdrawn UK 1st press "Puppet" Sleeve modeled on Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, John Peel, Brian Jones.....
this was pulled in the first run so only 1st UK presses and some GB overseas sleeves came of with this sleeve, a real collectors gem
photos are of actual item for sale what you see is what you get here, please see our 100% feedback.
The Sleeve
Nr Excellent
In great order for its 46 years no damage to spine fully readable Matt sleeve, no writing stickers or labels a real keeper.
normal soiling from removal but very light , the rear cover has a "scrape" in top right corner (see photo of the rear in listing) but not torn, looks like a historic storage removal scrape.
The record
very good condition+
"Made in Great Britain" at six o'clock on the label
Matrix A1 B1 Stereo
In good order, no writing or stickers on labels , the record labels have the misspelt "Gipsies" on them, the cover has "Gypsies" plays through with no issues , playtested on both our Rega 3 and light tracking Kenwood deck, no skips or jumps.
There are only light scratches , some hairlines and removal marks and light scuffs under strong light, this is the original iconic Black UK Track label from 1970 nothing to disturb play. This is VGC+.
There are only some spindle lines on the labels no writing or stickers, very clean...
In Very Good condition with some scuffs from sleeve removal and some light scratching, over the years, bear in mind this is a 49 year old vinyl record! it has some hairlines and crazing to the vinyl under light which we tried to show in photos.
Nice fat pre oil crisis 60s vinyl wow ! very flat on the table, test played on 2 decks wow great audio.
So thick and fat vinyl..sits very flat on the table.
See pictures in the listing you can see the light surface lines on the record.
There is some static crackle in quieter passages and intros ,
Plays clear with bright crisp sound may benefit from a professional clean (we don't do this as it's an individual thing) some background static is noticeable in the quieter passages but not many of those!
This is not a MINT or Archieve copy it has been played but a great affordable buy for any collector, the cover is in good order see full listing.
this is a great example of Jimis 1st track recording "without the experience" recorded live in new york in 1970 shortly before Jimis untimely exit. plays great with fantastic bass response and overall sound for a live recording, Wally Heider and Eddy Kramer did "the job" on this.
From 1970 is becoming one of the harder to find Hendrix UK Black Track presses ...
here it is under £100!
Been kept in a PVC sleeve for most of its life in great shape from a smoke free home.
Bright vibrant colour no writing stickers or tears, spine is in good order a real keeper see photos in listing.
Having done it's job over 46 years the sleeve has slight wear at corners but no visible ringwear at the rear (see photos)
No splits colours are good and no fading, the thick card holds up well, no writing , names or stickers.
on the whole a great sleeve and a very very collectable vinyl. there is some rounding to corners . spine is in good shape,
a great MacNeil Press Ltd (London) sleeve.
