Description
ARTIST – THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE
ORIGINAL 1968 CLASSIC
TITLE – ELECTRIC LADYLAND
RARE - 1ST UK PRESSING (STEREO) CAT NO. 613008/9 ORIGINAL 1968 ALBUM.
1ST Pressings of this album are identified by a number of characteristics, which this example has all of.
THE HAND ALTERED MATRIX NUMBERS TO ALL SIDES
The matrix numbers are machine stamped into the 'dead wax' areas:
SIDE A. 613008 A1 1 1
SIDE B. 613009 A1 1
SIDE C. 613009B A1 1 2
SIDE D. 613008 B1 1 2 1
These are machine stamped in the 'dead wax' areas with hand scratched amendments - there appeared to be slight confusion at the pressing plant as the sides were configured in the American style, i.e. Sides A and D are on the first disc, Sides B and C on the second
THE CATALOGUE NUMBER IS REPEATED IN BRACKETS ABOVE THE BOLD SILVER PRINT IN SMALLER INVERTED NUMBERS ON ALL RECORD ENDING WITH A CAPITAL ‘A’ OR ‘B’ PER SIDE
IT IS THE QUICKLY WITHDRAWN FIRST PRESSING WITH THE ERNEST J. DAY GATE FOLD COVER AND BLUE TEXT
IT HAS THE LARGE PHOTOS OF MITCH & NOEL INSIDE.
(NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE LATER COVERS WITH WHITE TEXT INSIDE AND THE SMALLER PICTURES OF NOEL AND MITCH.)
THESE FIRST EDITION COVERS WERE ‘BANNED’ SOON AFTER RELEASE DUE TO BAND POLITICS!
There are very distinct differences between the 1968 1st pressings and the later 1970/71 pressings on the Track label.
YOU ARE BUYING THE 1968 1ST PRESSING
Firstly, the 1st issue Track labels have a slightly different texture to the paper, but the main difference on the labels is the catalogue numbers. On the left side of the centre hole, the catalogue number is repeated in brackets above the bold silver print in smaller inverted numbers. These end with a capital 'A' or 'B' per side, on both records' labels. This is ONLY found on the first pressing.
The 1st issue gatefold cover has huge differences, the colour tones on the naked ladies are far deeper, with an almost green tinge to the flesh colours, often found on the spine as well.
The most obvious of all is found inside the gatefold. The track listing, is in a very vivid shade of blue. Every post 1968 issue had the graphics in a white colour.
Above the blue titles are two pictures of Mitch & Noel. In a 1st issue cover they are large sized photos, but all later covers have them reduced to a very small size. This too was the format for later Polydor label issues.
