THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE: ELECTRIC LADYLAND/ TRACK-POLYDOR, 613 008/9, SET 2657 001/ 1968.
This record is being sold as much for the rare original artwork as it is the brilliant music. The record is part of a small set that features beautiful hand painted artwork from a now long forgotten local artist from Hebden Bridge, a small Northern England town famed for it's counter-cultural aspects. The artwork was created in the late 60s/early 70s, and I have examples featured on two Hendrix lps and a Hawkwind lp. See my other items for sale.
But here is a copy of Electric Ladyland, a later pressing, with the cat. number 613 008/9 stamped in run-offs and the cat. number 2657 001 printed at the bottom edge of the inner gatefold. The original poly lined inner sleeves are patent no. 800513 & 973938 - Made in England 19 0571.
You will see from the photographs that the labels have been entirely painted over in a glorious psychedelic image of Hendrix's face. Each label features a subtley different tone. You'll also note from the photos that each side of the inner sleeve features extended Hendrix artwork in black paint. There are also typed out tracklistings and catalogue numbers etc cut out neatly and stuck to the sleeves. The whole work is a labour of love and a bonafide 60s/70s artwork in their own right.
Sadly these artworks/album were not looked after as well as might've been hoped. Played, created and long forgotten until the recent floods in the town brought an old and dusty box out of a cellar and sold at market, rescued from obscurity and loss.
That said the vinyl remains in overall very good+ shape, plays and sounds great with only a rare moment of light background crackle, though a scratch on track D1 creates a little popping for the first third of the track. Labels are obviously hand painted and the colours remain beautifully bright.
Inner sleeves, again hand painted, and featuring typescript tracklistings etc show some staining and a few splits at edges.
The outer cover shows some scuffing, slight ringwear, slight peeling/creases on laminate, in overall vg shape, no splits, tears or writing.
