THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE – Axis: Bold As Love ORIG Track LP // 613 003 (UK, Stereo, 1967)

Happy to offer a very impressive stereo UK press of the second Experience album, many people’s favourite – an album of bewildering invention, featuring Jimi in a variety of styles and moods from the heavy (‘Spanish Castle Magic’/’Little Miss Lover’) to the jazzy (‘Up From The Skies’) to effortless psychedelic balladry (‘Castles Made Of Sand’).  Happy to also be able to provide the legendary ORIGINAL ORANGE LYRIC INSERT with this copy.  Overall, everything here is in very fine shape.

The outer- laminated, flipback gatefold sleeve was made in the UK by E.J Day & Co. Ltd and has the Polydor manufacturing credit.  There’s not much to fault with it, though it’s not mint crisp (how many are?!).  There’s slight ageing to all four corners – not severe or nasty.  The spine corners have softened slightly. There’s a (small) soft crease to the front right bottom which transfers into the inner gate and a tiny bit of the rear too.  That’s about it for creasing – some light signs of handling but no other established creases anywhere, front, inner or back. Very slight burring of the opening edge, while the opposite edge is as it should be – firmly closed.  Slight evidence of storage rubs and dulling of the laminate if held meticulously into the light but hardly noticeable as the colours are still very much strong and vibrant.  I ALWAYS OUTLINE ALL SIGNS OF AGE/USE AWAY FROM A TRUE MINT GRADE.  There are NO splits, tears or writing.  There is NO real ring impression and NO edge wear or chipping of the edges.  THE SPINE is solid and without crushing or bleaching.  Overall a well above average example which grades a PROPER and TRUE EX (Excellent).  The inner gate is clean with all flips firmly glued and straight.

The insert is fine with just one soft crease across the left panel and some evidence of light handling.  Couple of tiny creases to the corners but NO pinholes, glue residue or tack stains.

The matt labels are in a lovely condition with NO scrapes, residue, writing and HARDLY ANY discernible spindle trails either side.  All the silver print still bright and not faded.

The vinyl is very pretty indeed and would grade a top near Mint if it weren’t for a gentle scuff line on Side 2 only.  This mark is absolutely surface only and completely non-feelable.  It has absolutely no effect on the audio and is pretty much the only blemish between the 2 sides.  Visually the rest of the disc is near perfect with a lovely shine, NO scratches and no real hairlines.  As you may know, Hendrix was a party favourite and it’s rare that you find such a good-looking disc as this.  Visually Side 1 grades M- (Mint Minus) and Side 2 (only because of the one isolated mark) comes in at EX (Excellent).  There are NO dimples or craters, NO embedded dirt and NO dulling or scrapes.  A well above average copy of this seminal 1960s Track original.

IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and I’m pleased to report there are NO ticks, clicks or pops, NO hiss or whoosh and NO distortion, lack of clarity or loss of definition.  If you’re listening for digital silence a hint of light surface noise is discernible in the ins & outs and track divides but that’s about it.  A great sounding record to match the sharp sleeve and top labels.  Play grade is a minimum EX (Excellent).

This LP will be talked about in a 100 years from now, as will the other Experience long players.  Here’s your chance to own it.

I will ship the record in a ‘Nagaoka’ anti-static inner but the original poly-lined inner is included as well.

No reserve.
