Label : Track Record Catalogue No : 613008/9
Country : UK
Media Condition : EXCELLENT + (EX+)
Sleeve Condition : VERY GOOD PLUS to EXCELLENT (VG+TO EX)
UK ORIGINAL WHITE TEXT SLEEVE Vinyl : EXCELLENT+ The vinyl is glossy. There is a slight mark (on Side D only) but nothing heavy and sounds great! The silver / black Track labels are bold and bright. Sleeve : VERY GOOD PLUS to EXCELLENT. The gatefold white text laminated sleeve is bold and bright. There is edge and corner wear with a few creases, however the sleeve is solid and the spine is unmarked and firm.
The vinyl on this copy shows the odd light hairline or surface scuff with minimal impact to playback other than the odd pop, minor background noise due to the high grade heavyweight vinyl used in the '60s with deep grooves. Despite being Fifty Eight (58) years old it retains its shine, meeting an Excellent grading.
The laminated gatefold picture sleeve shows just a little general shelf wear, with a few light creases in the laminate & edgewear to a minimum, meeting the Excellent grading with ease. The gatefold cover has deep colour tones on the naked ladies with an almost green tinge to the flesh colours, often found on the spine as well.
The product is a vinyl record cover featuring the iconic artwork from Jimi Hendrix's album "Electric Ladyland" with a nude theme.
A really fine and rare, Excellent+ condition of an early First Pressing of Jimi Hendrix ‘Electric Ladyland’ Double Long Play Stereo Record by Track Record.
First press of gatefold sleeve, featuring the controversial image (censored by some outlets at the time) of naked ladies on front/back.
This unique and visually striking design is sure to appeal to fans of the artist and collectors of vinyl records.
The album’s cover shows the controversial and soon censored photos of 19 naked women, front and back, opening up to reveal inside a large photo of Jimi Hendrix and the larger version photos of Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding and the Track List in White.
History
On the 25th October 1968, the musical comet that was Jimi Hendrix was burning at its brightest & this album was released to an eager public. It was hard to believe that it had been just two years since Jimi debuted on Polydor with 'Hey Joe' as the music had evolved so much since those first recordings. This album [like everything after 'Hey Joe'] was issued on Track Records. Later 70s issues went back to the Polydor label imprint.
This first issue has a number of differences to even the second Track issue the following year. The sleeve is the UK variant [which Jimi actually disapproved of], featuring a group of naked women, rather than the band itself. I suppose someone in the UK offices thought that 'Electric Ladyland' deserved a cover featuring an imagined 'Ladyland'! Jimi himself had no control over this. With the code 613008/9, it was released on the 16th October, 1968, printed by E. Day & Co Ltd. It has a fully laminated gatefold cover.
As an early first pressing the record has the matt black label with silver print: The Track Record -Polydor Records Ltd.
Electric Ladyland is the third and final album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, released on October 16, 1968 on Reprise Records in the US and Track Labels in the UK.
Written and produced by Jimi Hendrix, the album is seen as the peak of Hendrix’s mastery of the electric guitar and is frequently cited as one of the greatest rock albums of all time.
It is not only the last of his albums released as the Jimi Hendrix Experience, but also the last of Hendrix’s studio albums to be professionally produced under his own supervision.
