Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland mispressing on Gerry Mulligan Verve UK LP
Here's a one-off oddity for the Hendrix aficionados out there. What appears to be the second LP of a Gerry Mulligan jazz double album on the UK Verve label (Verve 2367 175) turns out to be nothing of the sort! Both labels are correctly printed for the Mulligan album. However, side 1 is mispressed with tracks from the first side of Electric Ladyland (Polydor 2310 269). Listening to it I can hear that the tracks are And The Gods Made Love, Electric Ladyland, Crosstown Traffic and Voodoo child. Somebody expecting to hear Gerry Mulligan would be mightily confused.
A hole has been punched through the label of the mispressed vinyl and there is some handwriting on the label which I can't quite decipher. The vinyl is in excellent condition, no scratches and plays cleanly with just a little crackle at the beginning. Its inner sleeve also has a punched hole.
The first LP (Mulligan) of the set is also in fine condition. The gatefold sleeve has a bit of edge and ring wear but is in otherwise nice condition. I grade the album EX/EX overall.
I guess this must be a unique item unless more than one escaped the pressing plant. I acquired it from Mole Jazz at Kings Cross in London way back when.
