SOME YEARS AGO WHEN WE WERE IN A GAS CRISIS Classic Records announced that their vinyl weight of 200 gram WOULD CHANGE to 180 gram FOR COSTS PURPOSES.  

What this change did for Collectors of the finest vinyl pressings was establish a First Edition element to Classic Records Audiophile pressings AND THOSE PRESSING HAD THE COMPLETE PLASTIC WRAP SURROUNDING THE PRODUCT. Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix (1993) was recorded by various artists in tribute to Jimi Hendrix. The artists were drawn from many genres of popular music. Contributors include his classic rock contemporaries Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, blues man Buddy Guy, classical violinist Nigel Kennedy, alternative pop/rock bands Belly and Spin Doctors, hip hop artists P. M. Dawn, among others.

According to the liner notes, the "artists were encouraged to not only record one of their own personal favorites but to also place their stamp on Jimi's songs." Several artists recorded radically different interpretations, particularly, P. M. Dawn, The Cure, Nigel Kennedy and Pat Metheny. Some artists, on the other hand, recorded versions that were rather similar to the originals.

The band M.A.C.C. is made up of Mike McCready (guitarist from Pearl Jam), Jeff Ament (bassist from Pearl Jam), Matt Cameron (drummer for Soundgarden and later for Pearl Jam), and Chris Cornell (singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave). The cover of "Hey Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun)" is their only known recording. All four members of this group had previously worked together on the Temple of the Dog project.

Eric Clapton's backing group on the title track includes the three original core members of Chic (Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson) and is the last recording on which all three played together.

Gary Moore - Blues For Jimi: Live In London 2 LP SET

 This unique concert was recorded at the London Hippodrome on October 25, 2007. It formed a part of the launch for the Jimi Hendrix "Live At Monterey" program and featured Gary Moore and his band performing classic Hendrix tracks. At the end of the night Gary was joined by Mitch Mitchell and Billy Cox of the Jimi Hendrix Experience for three tracks. Gary Moore was one of the finest British guitarists of all time and is one of the few players who could pay homage to Jimi Hendrix's groundbreaking and truly distinctive guitar style. This is a stunning tribute from one master guitarist to another.

This special compilation presents Jimi Hendrix’s 1965-1967 sessions with Curtis Knight & The Squires prior to his international fame leading the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

While Jimi Hendrix’s intermittent tenure as a guitarist for Curtis Knight & The Squires in 1965 and 1966 was relatively brief, more than 100 albums have been crafted from approximately forty studio recordings and consumer grade stage recordings by the group. Most featured low fidelity variations, remixes, edited versions, and instrumentals of the same material — often with their song titles changed. These albums were poorly annotated and all too often featured cover art that depicted the guitarist at the peak of his Jimi Hendrix Experience fame (and not as ‘Jimmy Hendrix,’ a sideman to Curtis Knight) and thus snared unwitting fans throughout the world that were starved for new Hendrix music for decades.

Jimi Hendrix was hamstrung throughout his career by litigation over these recordings in the US and UK and these fights continued until his family ultimately prevailed in litigation. You Can’t Use My Name stands as their first attempt to present this music in its original context.

You Can’t Use My Name is newly mixed and prepared for release by Eddie Kramer and includes the previously unreleased 1966 recording “Station Break,” the full length versions of “Knock Yourself Out [Flying On Instruments],” “No Such Animal,” and the 1967 recording of “Gloomy Monday” that includes dialogue between Hendrix and producer Ed Chalpin (featuring the guitarist’s request that the producer not use his name on this session because of the ongoing litigation between them).
