Description
THIS IS AN AUCTION FOR A VERY RARE FIRST STEREO PRESS OF THE SECOND LP BY THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE ENTITLED AXIS:BOLD AS LOVE. THIS LP WAS RELEASED IN THE UK IN 1967 ON TRACK RECORDS CAT NO 613 003.
THIS COPY WAS PURCHASED ON THE DAY OF RELEASE AND AS A RESULT IS A FIRST PRESS WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY INTENDED TO BE SENT TO EUROPE. THERE ARE 2 MAIN DIFFERENCES TO THE NORMAL STEREO PRESSING OF THIS LP. FIRSTLY THE VINYL ON THIS COPY IS ALOT HEAVIER THAN THE NORMAL PRESS. I OWN ONE OF THESE AND THE DIFFERENCE IS QUITE SUBSTANTIAL. SECONDLY THIS PRESS HAS THE RARE DOUBLE LOOP LABEL NOT THE NORMAL FLAT ONE. IF YOU LOOK AT THE PICTURES OF THE MATT LABELS - YOU WILL SEE TWO LOOPED RIDGES AROUND THE CENTRE HOLE. ONLY 'DAY OF RELEASE' COPIES HAVE THIS AND IT WAS CHANGED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY TO THE MORE COMMON 'SINGLE' RIDGE ON A FLAT MATT LABEL. THIS 'DOUBLE LOOPED' LABEL IS THE TYPE MOST OFTEN SEEN ON JIMI HENDRIX 1ST LP 'ARE YOU EXPERIENCED' - WHICH WAS PRESSED MUCH EARLIER IN THE YEAR AND BY THE TIME THIS LP WAS RELEASED THE 'DOUBLE LOOPED' LABEL WAS VIRTUALLY DISCONTINUED AND NEARLY EVERY PRESSING HAS FLAT LABELS. I HAVE ONLY SEEN ONE OTHER COPY OF THIS LP LIKE THIS AND IT BELONGED TO A LIBRARY IN HOLLAND, EXPORTED FROM THE UK. PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THE PHOTO'S TO SEE THIS.
THE VINYL HAS RETAINED AND EXCELLENT SHEEN AND IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF LIGHT MOSTLY SUPERFICIAL MARKS TO BOTH SIDES. THERE IS A SMALL 1CM SCUFF ON SIDE 1 WHICH CAUSES A COUPLE OF LIGHT TICKS AND THERE IS A LARGER 3CM ON SIDE 2 WHICH ALSO CAUSES A FEW LIGHT TICKS BUT OVERALL THE AUDIO IS VERY GOOD+ WHICH IS A CREDIT TO THE HEAVIER VINYL. THE VINYL HAS THE MATRIX OF 61303 A1 AND 613003 B1. THE MATT LABELS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
I HAVE LISTENED TO THE LP AT HIGH VOLUME AND IT STILL SOUNDS CLEAR AND VIBRANT. AS I HAVE ALREADY MENTIONED THERE ARE SOME LIGHT TICKS AND THERE IS SOME LIGHT BACKGROUND NOISE BUT OVERALL IT WAS A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO.
THE ERNEST J.DAY GATEFOLD SLEEVE IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. THERE IS SOME LIGHT STORAGE WEAR TO THE CORNERS AND A SMALL BIT [ABOUT 1CM] ALONG THE SPINE. THERE IS SOME LIGHT CREASING AND A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF FEATHERING BUT IT STILL LOOKS GREAT WHEN OPENED OUT.
OVERALL THIS IS A VERY NICE COPY OF AN EXTREMELY RARE HENDRIX LP.

The Lp will be sent in professional mailers and will be sent in the Uk recorded/special delivery at a cost of £2.50. I will pay the extra. The cost of postage in Europe is £8.00 and will include international signed for as mandatory . Anyone bidding who does not have feedback will have their bid cancelled straight away. I am very sorry about this but this is due to problems experienced in the past. Anyone without feedback and who wants to bid please contact me first.
Grading:- MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc
