Description
Per Wikipedia, The Cry of Love is the first posthumous album of music by American rock singer-songwriter and guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Recorded primarily in 1970, it features new material that Hendrix was working on for his planned fourth studio album before his death later that year. While most of the songs were included on proposed track listings by Hendrix, the final selection was made by recording engineer Eddie Kramer and drummer Mitch Mitchell. Released in March, 1971, six months after his death on September 18, 1970, by Reprise Records in the United States. The album was successful on the record charts in both the US and UK, and was certified platinum by the RIAA in 1998. Critics responded favorably to the album, viewing it as an impressive tribute to Hendrix. The album up for sale is a 1971 release on the Reprise label and was issued as a Promo, with the signature white labels. The recording was manufactured at Columbia Records Santa Maria pressing facility. The album consists of 10 tracks with a run time of 39+ minutes.
The cover has seen moderate use with wear along the corners and mild wear along the edges. There is also mild disc wear on the front and back covers. However, there are no split seams, bent corners, tears or markings on the album. The interior covers of this gatefold album also show some disc wear, but the color photos and graphics are unaffected. The photos of Hendrix show him at rest and in concert.
The paper inner sleeve is original and intact, but is generic in nature with no photos or graphics.
The recording has been cleaned and tested using Audacity. All tracks are free of skipping and the sound is VG+and is clean and crisp. There is very little background noise. On testing, I detected 2 mild "clicks" on Side 1, track 5 that does not interfere with the music. The record surfaces show only mild superficial wear that is not detectable to the touch and does not affect the listener experience. All labels are intact, but this promotional recording has station identification marks on Side 2 (see photos). This is a VG+ recording by Goldmine standards for grading records.
