This is a great listening album in the “close to” NM condition that collectors should pursue.

Jimmy Hamilton took Barney Bigard’s clarinet chair with Duke Ellington, and jazz is his life. His tenor sax solos are a “best kept secret,” that is revealed in this and other albums. The trumpet in this session is Clark Terry, who needs no intro.

The group includes Hamilton, clarinet and tenor sax; Clark Terry, trumpet; Britt Woodman, trombone; Tommy Flanagan, piano; Wendell Marshall, bass; and Mel Lewis, drums.

The tunes are: Side A 1. Two for One. 2. Mr. Good Blues. 3. Peanut Head. B 1. Stupid But Not Crazy. 2. Nits and Wits. 3. Gone With the Blues.

This monophonic album was recorded in 1961 and released on Swingville SVLP 2022. The record label is deep red with silver printing. There is a Bergenfeld NJ address. RVG is stamped in the deadwax area.

I play-graded this album at NM-. The sound is excellent, no tics or skips and no surface noise that I could hear.

Visually, the vinyl is in excellent condition, with a few hairline scratches. Grade is VG++ to NM-.

The album cover is excellent. The front graphic, a photo of Jimmy, is vivid. There is a small ding on the lower left corner. The faint ring wear blends in with the graphic and is not really visable. There is no edge wear! The back cover has wear marks around the edges and is stamped with the initials “RW”. I grade it VG++. The front is especially good.
