JI MMY HAMILTON “It’s About Time” original Swingville lp!

Here’s a nice original pressing of this rare lp released in 1961 on Swingville SVLP 2022 in the USA. The cover is in clean VG++ condition, the corners have light wear, light spotty wear on the seams and spine, front cover is clean with slight shelf wear, white back cover is clean but has some light minor soiling, otherwise clean with no splits,  no delete mark, writing or other issues. The vinyl is in VG++ condition, with just a couple of very light scuffs, and light storage staining. The record plays clean with typical light hiss in the background and otherwise very little noise, there are no skips, jumps, sticks, groove damage or otherwise, play graded from start to finish and plays with nice fidelity! RVG is machine stamped in the run out groove. A very nice addition to your jazz library. Please check my other jazz lp’s listed this week. Thanks for looking and good luck should you decide to bid!

Jimmy Hamilton (25 May 1917 – 20 September 1994) was an American jazz clarinetist, tenor saxophonist, arranger, composer, and music educator, best known for his twenty-five years with Duke Ellington.

Hamilton was born in Dillon, South Carolina, and grew up in Philadelphia. Having originally learnt to play piano and brass instruments, in the 1930s he started playing the latter in local bands, before switching to clarinet and saxophone. In 1939 he played with Lucky Millinder, Jimmy Mundy, and Bill Doggett, going on to join the Teddy Wilson sextet in 1940. After two years with Wilson, he played with Eddie Heywood and Yank Porter.

In 1943 he replaced Barney Bigard in the Duke Ellington orchestra, and stayed with Ellington until 1968. His style was very different on his two instruments: on tenor saxophone he had an R&B sound, while on clarinet he was much more precise and correct, though fluent. He wrote some of his own material in his time with Ellington.

After he left the Ellington orchestra Hamilton played and arranged on a freelance basis, before spending the 1970s and 1980s in the Virgin Islands teaching music (though he occasionally returned to the U.S. for performances with John Carter's Clarinet Summit). On his retirement from teaching he continued to perform with his own groups from 1989 to 1990.

Hamilton died in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, at the age of seventy-seven.

VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal cover wear and/or delete/splits, still visually appealing, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much

VG+ a little more cover/ring wear and delete, splits etc., the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects, both cover and vinyl no matter the condition, I also play grade the records on high end equipment and will give an honest play grade as well as visual grade, considering the number of records I buy on line my grading is very conservative and fair.
