The great Bluesman's sophomore effort…one of the critical albums of the modern blues. "Caress Me Baby" must be the finest blues song ever written. Our vote for the best blues album in history. (Sorry, B.B. King…move over Muddy…scram, Wolfie…) Absolutely, positively  indispensable

If this is of any relevance (and we do not claim that it is) "Rockin' with Reed" is an important  entry in our top-10 list of personal favorite BLUES albums . Other entries- in no particular order- include Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Lonnie Johnson, Albert King, Freddy King, Butterfield Blues Band, Elmore James, Lightnin’ Hopkins and Big Joe Turner.); Finding a still sealed copy?!?! Forget it – not even a HOPE!!! This may be the last one you will ever see.

Reed's second Vee Jay album was even more impressive than his debut for the independent label. Joined by long-time collaborator and guitarist Eddie Taylor, Reed polishes off such now classic cuts as "Going to New York," "Take Out Some !nsurance," and " "Down in Virginia." Reed's slyly sensuous voice and lithe guitar work are heard to fine effect over the course of the 12 stellar tracks here. In addition to Taylor, Reed also gets fine support from guitarists Albert King and John Little Jhn and drummer Earl Philips. One of the best places for Reed newcomers to start their collection.

(b)          The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Stereo copies of this album - either "true"  or electronically rechannelled - are NOT known to exist (although some later covers are incorrectly identified as such via small "stereo" s ticker).

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has some fraying/wear along the lower seam

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / frayed / bent (just a beginning of the split seam)

-        Cover has a completely split spine.

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the top seam (nothing significant)
