JIMMY SMITH “A New Sound A New Star” Blue Note RVG, DG, P, BLP 1514 mono Vinyl
This is 1956, RVG-etched, Deep Groove, Frame Cover, Flat Rim, “P” pressing of JIMMY SMITH’s “A New Sound A New Star” on the "767 Lexington Ave” labels of Blue Note BLP 1514. Musicians include Jimmy Smith, Thornel Schwartz, Donald Bailey.
This is one of Smith’s early Blue Note albums that made him a star. Absolute burning trio outing with Smith’s renown fireworks at full tilt. FLAT RIM VINYL plays with consistent low- to medium-level surface noise (i.e, crackle, static, ?? or ????, relative to the volume of the music/instruments), with occasional pops and ticks (some loud, some repeating). But ensemble sections are clear, dynamic and strong with clean transients, powerful extension and full tone. NO distortion. NO skips. Good gloss. Many hairline marks, 8 or 9 feelable. (If you can’t feel it, you won’t hear it). The Deep Groove "767 Lexington Ave” labels show minor aging and spindle marks. See photos.
FRAME COVER is in good shape. Shows normal wear, a few long hairline marks. Corners worn. Top seam and spine shows cracking. Bottom seam shows 2” split. “BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 767 Lexington Ave., New York 21” back jacket shows aging, wear. Please see photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system. RECORD CLEANED ON VPI 16.5 VINYL CLEANER.
