Description
This is a very reasonably priced ORIGINAL 1962 MONO LP titled MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, by "THE INCREDIBLE" JIMMY SMITH Jazz organist, issued in the USA on the BLUE NOTE (New York) Records label. It is Blue Note catalog number BLP 4078, having "BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC * NEW YORK USA" printed on the disc centre labels. The "Microgroove Long Playing" disc has "RVG" and "Ear" symbols stamped into the disc centres deadwax (Rudy Van Gelder Studio's pressing marks). It is also inscribed BN-LP 4078 A/B in the centres deadwax. The cover has BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC., 43 West 61st St., New York 23 address printed on the back.
The recordings were made at the historic Rudy Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on April 25, 1960. This original first issue of the album was released in the USA by the Blue Note label in 1962. I bought this USA first pressing LP second-hand from an imported jazz records shop in Tottenham Court Road (Dougie Dobell's?) in 1963.
This album was recorded at the same session and with the same line-up (Kenny Burrell, Stanley Turrentine and Donald Bailey) as the well-known "Back At The Chicken Shack" BLP 4117 album, released in 1963. The classic BLP 4078 album offered here is in very good condition and will make a great value Hammond B-3 Organ Jazz, Blue Note Records collectors' item!
