JOAN BAEZ

“JOAN BAEZ IN ITALY”

MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original VANGUARD Records very first Stereo press released in Chile in 1973 by Vanguard Records, made and distributed by Asociación Fonográfica Nacional “ASFONA”, M.R. (ASFONA Records), with orange/black Vanguard “Recordings For The Connoisseur” Records labels, catalog number VBPS-403, with hand etched matrix numbers VBPS-403A in Side 1 and VBPS-403B in Side 2. It’s interesting to notice that in labels it’s written “SADAIC-COMAR-BIEM”, because it means this record is licensed from an Argentinian release!!! Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND!!!

“JOAN BAEZ IN ITALY” was originally released in 1967 and it seems we had to wait a long time to see this great album released in Chile, because it was released in 1973, but like in most of the cases of that period, we got it with an UNIQUE COVER, made of two single pieces of thin cardboard or hard paper with single sheets of paper for front and back covers, partially attached to the cardboards, kept held for an outer plastic bag. Original outer plastic bag was removed. Front cover keeps strictly the original artwork with album title written in English only but back cover is totally different, album title is in English only, the original liner notes by Furio Colombo are written in Spanish only and tracklist is in Spanish, translated to English, with full credits and timing for each song. In labels the album title is also written in English only with the tracklist in Spanish, translated to English with full credits for songwriters of each song. It’s very interesting to notice that the song “There But For Fortune”, correctly written in back cover, it’s misspelled in label “There BU THE Fortune”, the song “With God On Our Side”, correctly written in back cover, it’s misspelled “With God IN Our Side” in label, and the song “Donna Donna” is misspelled “DONA DONA” in back cover and label!!! WOW!!! Another RARE album from Chile with UNIQUE ERRORS!!!

The cover is in superb EX or EX+ condition the front cover, complete and clean, with only minimal wear, more evident in corners, and in VG or VG+ condition the back cover, clean and clear, complete, but with some age browning and light marks of humidity, no creases, no blemishes, no writings. The record, is in superb EX+ or NM- condition both sides, glossy and clean, with only minimal scuffs and some soft hairlines hard to see, which of course don’t affect sound at all. Labels are in NM- or NM condition both sides, clear and clean, with only minimal wear in the spindle hole. The sound is the best part, it’s in strong EX+ or NM- condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with only minimal occasional crackles here and there, more evident in the song “A City Called Heaven”, and some very light pops in “Where Have All The Flowers Gone”, which of course don’t cause any distraction from the great sound of this LP, most of the LP plays in absolute NM condition. Overall, another rarity from Chile, a MEGARARE PRESS with UNIQUE COVER and UNIQUE ERRORS from a classic album!!! ALMOST NEVER SEEN in this condition!!! And after about 48 years and some plays this copy still retains a great look and an absolute decent and respectable sound quality which won’t disappoint anyone, LOUD, CLEAR, NO DISTORTIONS, NO CLICKS, NO SKIPS, NO STICKS, it plays great from the beginning to the end!!! GREAT FIND FROM CHILE AGAIN!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

_________________________________________________________

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
