JOE PRICHARD & GIBRALTAR LP Hard to find bluesy psych, private press on Kendall/Lee from Missouri 1974. This is a long gone 2nd pressing from 1996. Limited hand numbered pressing, this is #127/300. This is one of my deserted island picks, so don't sleep! Record and sleeve are in NEAR MINT condition.

[isdntekvideo] Musically this album is a diverse mix of different styles ranging from hard rock to psychedelia and from blues rock to jazz-rock. The guitarwork is pretty strong and the band sounds nice overall. "Blind Man" is a great heavy psych rocker and my personal favourite from this LP. The following two tracks are pretty good (although a bit unoriginal) blues rockers. "The Machine Is Small Enough" is the longest song here and it's very jazzy and it includes some nice flute and sax. The album ends with "August Apathy" which is a short but fun closing track.
Very little is known about Joe Prichard or his sidekicks, except that the band, which hailed from Missouri, drew its inspiration from influences far and wide, resulting in each of the 5 tracks being very different in character, ranging from the power chords and staccato guitar breaks of the Jimmy Page variety, to the throaty sax of 12-bar blues specialists Climax as well as the dual guitars of ZZ Top. There's even a 9-minute jam a la Jethro Tull or Traffic with flute and sax giving a decidedly jazzy feel to proceedings. This is another extremely rare record (only 500 copies were pressed on the private Kendall-Lee label in 1974).
