GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie vengono controllati sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i i 33 giri in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1. Per EP e singoli a 45 giri utilizzo un Thorens TD 166 BC con testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All LPs in auction have been fully heard on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge. I listen EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Sarebbe stato facile per il compositore Britannico continuare il bel filone musicale da lui creato per 007 ma l'agente del controspionaggio interpretato da Caine è profondamente differente da Bond, poco donnaiolo e poco supereroe, così come la trama di Ipcress ha soluzioni sceniche meno fantastiche e con una maggior aderenza alla realtà quotidiana. Al di là di questa mia premessa, è innegabile l'assoluta qualità dell'intera colonna sonora sia per la sua ingegnosa struttura che per la piacevolezza del suo ascolto. Ben sapendo che tutti i collezionisti conoscono questa musica mi limito a sottolineare l’ottimo uso del jazz che non scimmiotta quello Americano ma è creatura autonoma e geniale del grande Barry. Basta ascoltare "Alone in Three-Quarter Time" (a2), "Jazz Along Alone" (a4), "A Man Alone" (b1) e "Alone Blues" (b3).

Notes : James Bond vs. Harry Palmer, John Barry as referee. It would have been easy for the British composer to continue the beautiful style of music he had created for the 007 films but the espionage agent played by Caine is profoundly different from Bond, absolutely not womanizer or superhero as well as the plot of "The Ipcress File" has less spectacular scenic solutions and a better approach to everyday reality. Beyond this my premise, there is no doubt that the entire soundtrack is superb both for its ingenious structure and for the pleasantness of its listening. As I imagine that all collectors know the music, I limit myself to highlight the excellent use of jazz music which does not hit off the American one but it is brilliant and autonomous creature of the great Barry. Just listen to "Alone in Three-Quarter Time" (a2), "Jazz Along Alone" (a4), "A Man Alone" (b1) and "Blues Alone" (b3).
