The original mono 1958 3 LP box featuring David Tudor et al. performing work by Cage. Packaged with notes and manuscript score reproductions. The LPs are a VG+ (details below), the box and inserts merely VG-. The box is solid enough but there are splits at both left corners. The edges are solid but a bit of rubbing/chipping to the bottom edge. The front is rubbed and streaked from an old dampstain. The edges and internals are darkened from moisture (no smell). The inserted sheets are all present (13 manuscript reproductions on two-four leaves with introductions, the illustrated booklet) but they've suffered over the years: toned, chipped, small to long tears (mostly at the fragile joints), some separation. The inserts were printed on very thin paper and damage, perhaps not to this extent, was almost inevitable. To return to the discs: all 3 LPs/6 sides are present and accounted for. The labels are clean but patchily and lightly discolored (perhaps from handling, perhaps from the glue attaching them to the records). The sides are flat and glossy, but the following flaws were found: (side 1) a hairline; (side 2) half-dozen hairlines, light finger marks; (side 3) one or two small hairlines; (side 4) three hairlines, one of them fairly long, light paper scuff; (side 5) half-dozen hairlines, touch of paper scuff; (side 6) two hairlines, one tramline. The sound is generally quite good (the records were tested from beginning to end): some light surface noise (static, soft ticks) shows up from time to time, generally at the start of a side and into the first track, but long quiet patches abound and the surface noise is never heavy. There are no skips or jumps. I've provided samples from each side and these are both raw (edited only to normalize the waves, nothing more) and uncensored (I've hit the noisy spots as often as the quiet patches).
