Description
(unknown artist): Purple Haze/Summertime (audiodisc acetate/196?)
Perhaps the farthest out version of the Hendrix classic. It's got fuzz guitar galore, phased vocals, odd electronic effects, heavy organ. This was featured uncredited on the World of Acid vinyl comp, then with the more imaginative Norton-inspired name of John Doe & the Actetates on the CD comp A Fistful of Fuzz.
The flip side is an organ dominated cover of Gershwin that became something of a garage/frat staple in the 60s.
It's almost never one can say here "this is the only known copy" and "the only one you'll ever see offered:, but I'm willing to go out on a limb and say it with this.
This is an acetate which is still in very good condition. It shows no sign of the lacquer braking up. There are some scuff marks on both sides. Both sides play without any pops or clicks, but there is hiss and crackling heard throughout, but never coming close to overpowering the music.
See my other auctions for more garage and psych 45s. Lots of good fuzz to be heard here.
Some sounds will be added early in the week
GENERAL INFO
SHIPPING: Shipping costs will be quoted based on cost for estimated weight plus $1.00 to cover most of the cost of packing materials.
All records are packed in in between two cardboard filler pads and shipped in professional cardboard mailing boxes. All unsealed 12" records are taken out of their covers to prevent seam splitting. If there is a custom inner sleeve, the record will be put in a separate white inner. If a 7" record comes in a picture sleeve, the same procedure is followed.
GRADING: I grade records both visually and audibly. As grading is so imprecise and subjective, I don't have a set grading description like you see listed in many auction and collector magazines. My grades for records and covers are based on the overall conditions I describe in each auction; I will note any visual defects and (for the vinyl) any non-musical sounds (pops, clicks, skips, etc.).
