Tracks:
1. Sweet little sixteen - Alt. take – much harder, w/more guttural vocal
2. Bless you – Early rehearsal (“It’s hard to play slowâ€) w/electric guitar, bass and drums
3. Many rivers to cross – Home recording of Jimmy Cliff’s tune, featuring electric guitar & John’s always faithful and obedient beat-box.
4. Cookin’ (in the kitchen of love) – Lennon mumbles his way through a piano demo of what became Ringo’s song, sounding awfully close to “Watching the wheelsâ€â€¦
5. My life – Composing tape of what became “Starting overâ€
6. I watch your face – Acoustic demo of yet another song that sounds like “Watching the wheelsâ€, though doesn’t sound like “Cookin’â€, oddly enough
7. Serve yourself – The version that proves this song has no ending, as Lennon does about three long “Ooooooohhh whehehehelllllllllâ€s (never a good sign the song is finished), though the rest of the song sounds much better than all the other versions.
8. The worst is over – Electric guitar and beat box home demo of a songs that’s instrumentally “Staring overâ€, but vocally not much more than “The worst is over now… relax and take it easy… doo doo d’dooo dooâ€
9. Watching the wheels – Electric demo, with the right lyrics, but an odd galloping beat that sounds nothing like the finished melody and even less like it than either “Cookin†or “I watch your faceâ€.
10. Beautiful boy – Over 11 minutes of composing tape with final lyrics, wherein John starts out playing what became the hammered dulcimer’s part on his guitar. Then experiments to see if maybe a chugging guitar sound might be better, or slamming the strings, or trying to make it into a ska version, or having little bursts of guitar, or turn it into a cha-cha…
