Original UK pressing of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's – Two Virgins - 1968 UK 1ST PRESS VINYL LP I’m selling this very rare and obscure LP on behalf of my father-in-law. He has owned this from new and said this has only been played once! The LP is the rare 1st press U.K. Stereo version. I have taken a few pictures of both sides so you can see its condition and authenticity. There are signs of aging on the picture sleeve as you can see from the picture (Outer sleeve has slight staining and scuffing to corners). The original inside black sleeve is in excellent condition. I’m not a record collector so its hard for me to describe the condition of the actual vinyl. There is a small group of scratches which I have photographed otherwise I would say its in good condition for its age with only a few hard to see surface hairline scratches on the playing surfaces.
Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins was John’s first UK solo Album release in 1968, on Apple. It had taken Lennon six months to persuade the fellow Beatles to agree to the release of the album. Not surprisingly, it caused much of a stir at the time due to the nude Photographs on the album cover and the experimental avant garde music content. A major obstacle was the record company, who refused to release it unless the Photographs were changed. Eventually the album was distributed by Track Records in the UK - with one condition - that it was wrapped in a brown paper bag, to cover the offending nude scenes, but even with approval, the record company printers would not print it. In addition many record shops refused to stock it, and it therefore only sold around 5,000 copies, not even entering the charts. Even the music press opposed it and no editor would accept any of the adverts. It was the first Solo Beatles album to be deleted.
