Bare Wires was the first Bluesbreakers album of new studio material since A Hard Road, released 16 months before.
In that time, the band had turned over entirely, expanding to become a septet.
Mayall's musical conception had also expanded -- the album begins with a 23-minute "Bare Wires Suite," which included more jazz influences than usual and featured introspective lyrics.
The album became Mayall's most successful ever in the U.K., hitting number three

Clean, unmarked labels with just a few light spindle traces
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT
Both surface shine like new and even under bright light there is barely a mark to be seen
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT/EXCELLENT
A barely used copy which plays with little to fault.
There is a scratch on the run-in of Side Two but the needle can be placed after this flaw and still track before the music starts, and a tiny, tiny mark at the end of "I'm A Stranger" which produces 5 clicks as it is passed over.
Nothing else to fault.
Both fairly minor issues in my opinion, the record sounds really wonderful
