John Mayall : Blues From Laurel Canyon 1B / 1B 1st Mono Press 1968
This first mono pressing plays with stunning quality on both sides with barely any intrusion and in fact the only 'interference' is one dull sounding light click right at the end of S2. The clarity, depth, power and warmth of the audio is incredible and it would be difficult to find a more impressive sounding album. It has been preserved so well and has hardly been played based on the audio quality, the visual quality and that there is just one barely visible spindle trace on the S2 label. As per the other John Mayall LP I am selling I cannot overstate just how well this one plays, the playback is STUNNING across every track and again it has that full, deep rich sound that you only find on mono records.
The laminated cover is in exceptional condition also with hardly any wear and certainly nothing stands out and the original inner sleeve just has a some creasing here and there. A remarkable 'package' that truly stands the test of time!

Visual description
The vinyl is in superb shape and still holds a stunning glossy sheen with no obvious marks or scratches. There is one faint line of 'bag rash' on S1 and another small even fainter section but this is purely superficial as it has no affect on the audio quality. Under a bright light I can only detect a handful of ultra faint wispy hairlines and there is no groove or surface wear, it really is a stunning example of this '68 pressing. The run out grooves are very clean with only a couple of minor blemishes (bag rash) on the S1 run off. The JT tax stamp and matrix info can easily be read on both. The red Decca labels are more or less perfect with only tiny mega faint spindle trace on the S2 label.
Play Grading
The first few seconds of 'Vacation' is very quiet and yet there is no background... as the aeroplane approaches! The rest of the intro plays without fault and Mayall's opening vocal is equal to that. The guitar solo, which I assume is Taylor at 19 years old (!), then plays with incredible quality. Play it loud the audio could not be any stronger! Wow! One more brief vocal, no background again, and the closing organ section is flawless. This is without doubt a Mint start to the album. Almost a 'proggy' track it could be said.
The segue into 'Walking On Sunset' is perfect and the intro and opening vocal are the same. From then on it plays with exceptional power and depth and with no interference whatsoever, not even a dust tick. The vocals are so clean and the closing instrumental is superb! The depth throughout is certainly 'up there', Thompson's bass so deep and strong. Mint
The quiet piano intro on 'Laurel Canyon Home' is 'as new' without any background and the opening vocal is so so close to that with only a handful of minor statics, not ticks and they are totally non-intrusive. The mid piano instrumental is so quiet and yet there is only one minor tick, the clarity is stunning. The next vocal is pretty much perfect and the closing section plays with sublime clarity once more. It's such a quiet number so for there to be only one minor tick is hugely impressive - I will grade as Near Mint+ which is not a grade I use often but Near Mint doesn't sound quite right!
'2401' then plays with phenomenal power and depth, it truly is a STUNNING version. I've played it twice now and it just gets better! From the first note to the last the sonic quality is out of this world! Mayall is adding another 'string to his bow' with this track - a much heavier 'rockier' number and the audio is so strong and deep. I guess 'as new' sums it up, it is MINT in every sense of the word.
The intro on 'Ready To Ride' is faultless and the opening vocal section is on a par with that. It continues in much the same way with no interference. The mid instrumental, great harmonica work again, has no background and the entire track is underpinned by Thompson's deep bass sound. Nothing is lost here, the audio is as clean and 'warm' as it would have been back in '68. The final vocal is perfect and this also grades as Mint
The piano intro on 'Medicine Man' has no background and the next part is just as impressive. Mayall's opening vocal is basically perfect with only one barely audible static. One light static on the the following instrumental and then the remainder plays to perfection, even that very quiet ending. Mint-
'Somebody's Acting Like A Child' plays with stunning quality from the get go. A couple of barely audible statics on the intro and the first vocal is strong and dynamic with no discernible distortion. The mid instrumental plays with impeccable clarity and the next vocal is strong and clear also. There is no drop in quality as it progresses. A long fade out here but the clarity is amazing, not one dust tick! I'll say Mint- although that could be considered a little harsh!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is definitely a Stones 'feel' on 'The Bear' intro, blatant to be honest! It plays with stunning quality with literally no background and the 'next' intro is just as good. The opening vocal is flawless and it continues to play with sublime audio with only one minor static near the end. Mint-
'Miss James' plays with crystal clear audio from start to finish, genuine depth and warmth and... no intrusion. Another example of the clarity- there is no background on the quiet end passage and long final note. Mint
The quiet intro and opening vocal section on 'First Time Alone' play beautifully with only a small number of minor statics, the clarity is STUNNING believe me! This track is of course so quiet and yet it would be difficult to find it play with a clarity better than this. Not quite perfect but not far from it! No intrusion as such, no clicks or pops, and Green's gentle work towards the end provides the perfect accompaniment. Near Mint but yep the vast majority is better than that!
'Long Gone Midnight' plays with superb audio through every vocal and instrumental section. Stunning guitar from Taylor once more. Just one very quiet tick near the end but then the long fade out plays perfectly. Mint-
The very quiet opening section on 'Fly Tomorrow' again defies the age of the album! The clarity of sound is incredible and I only picked up a couple of mega quiet statics. As the volume increases during the first guitar solo the playback is so strong and clear and the depth especially is stunning. This entire instrumental could not play any better and there is no distortion on the top end, this is seriously impressive! Taylor was / is (!) such a talent! The quiet closing section then rounds off this classic 9 minute track with wonderful clarity once more, a handful of minor statics and one dull tick / light click that is all. Sounds a lot but honestly the clarity of sound is hugely impressive and as my regulars know I mention any background even if so minor and totally non-intrusive. That one light click is the only intrusion really although I still think it is worthy of a Near Mint because it is well, close to Mint!
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The laminated cover is in superb condition with hardly any wear. Only the bottom edge of the back has a little rubbing, the others are extremely clean. The spine is perfect, 'as new', and all the corners are in terrific shape with only minimal rubbing on the bottom right corners. The opening edge has only minimal handling wear. The front cover is close to pristine with just one very small area of laminate lift in the lower left corner and the back cover is similar with one minor crease in the top left corner. The inside of the gatefold is immaculate with no marking, a stunning example overall.
The original poly-lined inner sleeve is in excellent condition with no side splits or tears and no marking. There is just a little creasing which is mainly in one corner.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Many thanks.
All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
