Rare debut album from John Clyde-Evans. Soothing drones a la Neil Campbell or Richard Youngs
Some info on the release: Very rare limited edition of 500 units back from 1998, this was (and still is) a landmark of experimental/drone/avant-garde. Released on small independent label Fisheye (Jackie O Motherfuukker, Omit, Sandoz Lab Technicians, Richard Youngs, Simon Wickham-Smith, Shadow Ring, Noggin, Culver, Prick Decay, etc.)
Here is the label review back from that time: "I don't think I'm really sticking my neck out here by saying that this is just superb. Running the risk and putting out 500 of the buggers is probably a firm enough statement in itself. This is John's debut solo LP. Consisting of seven pieces of sublime, acoustic droning for both real and make-believe instruments. A multi-instrumentalist, John utilises a number of diverse instruments ranging from bowed lids to mouthpiece to piano internals along with violins, prepared guitar, cymbals, etc.
John has had a busy time since his last release, the extremely limited 7-tape box-set, in 1996. He has collaborated with some great people such as Ashtray Navigations, Children at Play, Newcastle-based Culver, improvised string duets with Neil Campbell and, most notably, playing on the last two Hood LPs (adding violin, clarinet and piano).
Other projects have included working with obscurest Ross Parfit on scoring a soundtrack (solely for bowed cymbal, thumb piano and electronics) for a play in Newcastle. Also watch out for John's 7" release on BWCD/Giardia records.
An edition of 500 the first 300 LP sleeves sport Buddhist prayer papers, picked up by John whilst in Thailand." (please note that this copy does not have buddhist prayer paper)
In the interim, mr. clyde-evans has attained something of a backstory, first moving to india to attain sikhdom, changing his name for a spell to tirath singh nirmala - under which he released an impeccable stream of eastern-leaning avant-psych drone records, all heavily influenced by a palpable sense of spirituality; nothing at all like the mostly derived-from-boredom strain of “the other” channeled by the majority of cross-continental travelling drone-psych umlauts you come across these days but borne of a true devotion - finally returning the the u.k. over the last year & continuing on under his xian given ... Close to the sounds of Coil, Throbbing Gristle, Death in June, Sol Invictus, Foetus, John Duncan, Vibracathedral Orchestra, Maurizio Bianchi, Merzbow, Los Angeles Free Music Society, Zoviet France, Organum, Nocturnal Emissions, electronic and similar.
Condition: Vinyl lies in absolutely mint/new condition, while cover lies in mint condition, this is an unplayed stock copy.
