THIS 10 INCH LP IS BY 'JOHNNY O'KEEFE' AND IS CALLED 'JOHNNY'S GOLDEN ALBUM' AND WAS RELEASED ON THE FESTIVAL LABEL FM 6005.

THIS LP IS SIGNIFICANT IN NOT ONLY OKEEFES CAREER, BUT ALSO BUDDY HOLLY AND JERRY ALLISON (JI OR IVAN) FROM THE CRICKETS.

WHEN THE CRICKETS TOURED AUSTRALIA IN EARLY 1958 OKEEFE WAS ON THE TOUR WITH THEM AND HE SANG A SONG WHICH HE CO-WROTE NAMED 'WILD ONE'. HOLLY AND ALLISON LIKED IT SO MUCH THAT THEY WENT BACK TO CLOVIS IN NEW MEXICO TO NORMAN PETTYS RECORDING STUDIO AND RECORDED BUT UNDER THE GUISE OF 'REAL WILD CHILD'.

PETTY ALSO BOUGHT 50% OF THE PUBLISHING RIGHT WHEN HE WAS IN AUSTRALIA.

THE SONG WAS ISSUED BY HOLLY AND ALLISON IN AUSTRALIA ON CORAL RECORDS CK-3637 ON THE 16TH NOVEMBER 1958 UNDER THE NAME 'IVAN'.

THIS LP IS SIGNIFICANT IN THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST APPEARANCE OF 'WILD ONE' AS A SONG ON ANY OF OKEEFES RELEASES.

IT HAS NEVER BEEN RELEASED AS A 45 RECORD ONLY ON THIS LP AND LATER AND EP.

THE TRACKS ARE :

WILD ONE, SO TOUGH, I AIN'T A GONNA DO IT, CONFORT IN MY HEART, OVER THE MOU NTAIN, LAWDY MISS CLAWDY, AIN'T THAT A SHAME AND THAT'LL BE ALLRIGHT (THIS LAST SONG WAS ALSO RECORDED BY IVANTON THE SCAN.

FOR THE GRADING I HAVE PUT USED BUT IT IS IN JUST GORGEOUS CONDITON FOR ITS AGE. IT LOOKS UNPLAYED.

THE COVER IS EXCELLENT JUST NORMAL AGE WEAR 

THE LABELS ARE LIKE NEW

THE VINYL AS I SAID I WILL GRADE AS EXCELLENT PLUS. THEY DO LOOK UNPLAYED.

       All vinyl listed on auction has been cleaned, played and visually inspected so that you may bid with confidence. Albums (LPs) and Extended Plays (EPs) are sent with the record outside of the cover and placed in an outer plastic sleeve (to prevent ring-wear) before safely packed.

       Where required, the sleeves have been cleaned with a secret formula to eradicate as much ring-wear and built up dirt as possible.

        Multiple items won will be combined to save on postage.

For grading purposes I play side one only of an EP or 45 (mainly the ‘A’ side) and a few tracks on side one of an LP.

I also grade records on a perceived appearance basis. I then combine them for an overall grading. I believe this to be the most effective way of grading records. Some records can look ordinary but they play well and vikky vika.

I use the English Record Collectors Magazine Guidelines for gradings as this appears to be the generally accepted term of reference with variances to + or minus. Below are grading scales.

GRADING DEFINITIONS FROM THE ENGLISH RECORD COLLECTOR MAGAZINE

MINT (M): The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just about playable, but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
