This auction is for a sublime 1st Press copy of Jonesy -Growing, an essential addition to any obscure prog collection on the extremely collectible DAWN label. The vinyl is quite possibly UNPLAYED and the gatefold sleeve is EX+ at least. This is the ultimate upgrade archive copy for this album!!!

Jonesy is an obscure English band that released "Growing" in 1973. Comprised of six pieces, the music on the album is more song-oriented and looser than most English progressive rock of the time. Nonetheless, there are some imaginative arrangements and avant-garde improvisatory sections that plant them firmly at the (outer) edge of the prog circle. 

Instrumentation is fairly unusual for a rock band and features occasional blasts on the trumpet, which is electronically altered at times (they ran the trumpet through an ARP 2600 synthesizer). In fact, it is refreshing to hear the trumpet in a progressive rock context and is suggestive of an influence by Miles Davis (particularly the Jack Johnson album, 1971). Real strings are present on a few pieces, with a very nice arrangement on "Waltz for Yesterday" and at the introduction of the lengthy finale "Jonesy". The use of keyboards is not extremely heavy and includes some brief passages played on the piano, Hammond organ, electric piano, and (rarely) the mellotron (with string setting). Although an ARP 2600 solo is present on "Know who your friends are", and a clavinet part is present during a funky section of "Hard Road", both instruments are played by guest Ken Eliot and not Jonesy keyboardist Jamie Kaleth. Vocals are also provided by Jamie Kaleth and are pleasant enough, although sounding very "rock-ish" at times. Guitarist John Evan-Jones is a solid player, and although employing a wide variety of tones and textures, seems to favor a heavier, more distorted sound than the "clean" tones predominantly used by guitarists in other English prog bands. Last but not least, bassist "Gypsy" Jones and drummer/percussionist "Plug" Thomas hold it all together. Although not necessarily detracting from the album, the 8'20" "Can you get that Together" and the closing instrumental "Jonesy" are simply "jams", with extensive soloing by all members. Of the two, "Jonesy" is fairly spacey at times, spans 11'25, and is the better of the two. The album was re-issued by Si-Wan Records, with liner notes in Korean and lyrics in English. Chances are that if you like this stuff then you may like the band "Flash", which featured former Yes guitarist Peter Banks.

So, so hard to find, one of Jonesy's all time classic albums and here it is where it all came together from start to finish although the predecessor was awesome in its own right!! Splendid  prog album in great EX condition!! This will be a great first acquisition as well as a terrific upgrade!!! This has the original  Dawn label. A stunning copy of this album, rarely ever seen in this condition.

I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! There are not any jumps, pops or skips. There is NO background noise at all!! Very remarkable for this 1974 vinyl!!! The heavy vinyl with high groovewalls provides a fantastic audio experience with channelling not equalled by the later CD version. I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing Rotel amp and B&W three way speakers!!! A beautiful CLASSIC with supreme songcraft, a joy to listen to!!!!

SO HARD TO FIND THIS FRUUPP ALBUM IN THIS FANTASTIC CONDITION THIS WILL BE AN UPGRADE FOR MOST SERIOUS COLLECTORS FOR ITS VINYL. IT IS VERY HARD THESE DAYS TO STILL FIND THIS GEM IN THIS SMASHING CONDITION. IT WILL BE A LONG TIME BEFORE THIS TURNS UP AGAIN IN THIS SPLENDID CONDITION WITH AGAIN MORE TAKERS THAN EVER BEFORE. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT INVESTMENT PIECE. 

Vinyl: EX+ to NM.  I'm very happy to be able to present this  gem in this absolutely wonderful condition. Barely played if at all!!! The audio is simply sublime played on my Technics deck with Linn Sondek cartridge and through my rotel amp and B&W speakers.  This really heavy vinyl sounds out of this world, a majestic album that went largely unnoticed at the time. Unbelievably it has NO hairlines or marks at all!!  The audio has beautiful separation and there is no background noise. I played this through in full and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was even tempted to keep this as it will be very hard to find this again, it is indeed mega rare now in this ARCHIVE condition. The labels have no spindle traces at all. Needless to say NO jumps, clicks or ticks. The best you will find by miles. This will be a fantastic upgrade for most long time collectors of quality obscure psych and prog!!!

Gatefold Sleeve:  EX/EX+.  Fantastic looked after matt gatefold sleeve . Lovely colours and no creases or stickers.  The edges are unworn and this must be the best preserved copy of this rarity out on the market.  I have only ever once come across this album before, it is very scarce. It has always been kept in a protective outer polythene sleeve in a custom made LP library cabinet. This will be an ultimate upgrade for 99% of collectors of rare prog or psych. The pictures are part of the description and give an excellent representation of this great LP.

 Booklet: EX+.  Most often this item has gone missing and finding it in any condition is an absolute bonus. This one is just about perfect with just a corner crease and has probably been sat in the gatefold sleeve for all of its  44 years.
