Here, you get what you pay for – SAFE PACKING in BOXES using 7mm DOUBLE-WALL STIFFENERS including full side protection and bubble wrap, the records removed from the covers of course. All this very safe packing means I lose money on every box I post, but safe delivery is, and will always be paramount. You WILL see the difference when my packet arrives. Also, I will pay for insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Also I aim to post the very same day after payment is received if possible. PLEASE NOTE: I will NOT send any item, no matter what its value without a Royal Mail or courier tracking number. ALL my items must be signed and traceable to comply with Ebay delivery rules. Please do NOT ask me to make any exceptions to this rule as no country offers 100% reliable service without it.

Posting to Russia: Yes, I do post to Russia. But delivery can take up to 4 to 6 weeks from the UK. So please be patient. I will submit a tracking number to the winning bidder, and when the packet arrives there it can be followed online using the Russian post website.

Rarity: A scarcer first issue record, and this one includes the fairly rare lyric insert sheet. Copies in thsi condition are far harder to find, this delicate folk classic plays beautifully throughout and is superbly pressed.

Brief Info: The second album from one of the most popular and greatest female singer-songwriters of her generation. Brilliant songs and lyrics, this album has minimal backing – Clouds is predominately Joni playing acoustic guitar and singing all her own compositions – they are performed impeccably with beautiful clean and natural sound. On this first issue, the production and realism of the recording have a true in-the-room quality, the guitar has a rich twang with beautiful sonic clarity, and Joni could almost be there with you. All the songs are pure class, this is folk-era Joni at her very best. Always a challenging genre for vinyl with no hiding places for surface sounds and blemishes, but this copy has hardly any and will not prove easy to match or find better. The beautiful self-portrait cover is equally difficult – unlaminated with the original textured surface – some have a smooth finish and both are rarely found devoid of ugly ring wear or major surface rubbing – this also in wonderful condition with only fairly patchy rubbing on the bottom storage edge. Last, but hardly least, this includes the elusive and quite rare lyric insert sheet that only came with very early originals, that in close to Mint condition. So a fantastic example, indeed this could prove a major upgrade for fans and collectors.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): grading this less would not be doing it real justice, I have rarely, if ever seen a better one. A single unlaminated format with superb textured surfaces. A gorgous colourful self-portrait printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse. Includes the polylined inner sleeve and the rare lyric insert sheet – this guaranteed original.

Cover Front & Back: One of the great covers of its era with deep intense colour retained. Ultra clean, fresh and vibrant. Avoiding the usual rubbing and ring wear that blights many, these early ones even more vulnerable with a thick heavy record inside since 1969. This a self-portrait of Joni, the lovely textured surfaces gives it a canvas-like finish which is probably the intention. Any of the tiny few creases fine and faint, the odd small mark seen up close, but the genuine beauty of this cover will rarely be matched and has to be seen for real to be fully appreciated. No fading, sticker issues and the very best news of all, no rubbing or ring wear. Put simply: an amazingly preserved and gorgeous sleeve that has been cover-protected for most of its time.

Top Edge: Thin, but straight with hardly any traces of rubbing, the surface clean and unfaded.

Bottom Edge: This vulnerable resting edge has fairly patchy light to moderate rubbing. Storage edges on such covers rarely escape with some rubbing, but this is pretty much the only area on this one affected.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly very sharp with minimal traces of thickening, this guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: A stunning spine with barely anything to fault, finding this vulnerable area like this is beyond difficult. Again thin, but very solid, equally straight with barely any compression. The surface very clean, fresh and unworn, all text perfect, and that is rare as it’s printed in red, which is highly prone to fading with any exposure to light. For good measure, this superbly centred on a very narrow depth. This the difference between average and exceptional, this surface really is just that.

Corners: Most of any corner rubbing is very light, most, as usual, on the bottom right, and this only seen end-on with barely a trace on the front or back. Few will ever show less, and all retain better than excellent to near mint shape with no knocks.

Cover Summary: A truly beautiful cover and very delicate of course. This a beauty and offering scant clues of age or wear. The difference for one cover-protected for most of its years is immediately apparent. This a classic piece of vintage art that other formats cannot offer. One to please many, if not most collectors, as stated, this has huge upgrade potential and a delight to view and hold.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT: a plain white polylined inner in very fine condition and in terms of discolouration or wear, hardly aged. The lining clear as seen through two crisp, undamaged circle windows, all edges solid and unsplit with no repairs. Some natural crinkle and a little creasing on the back. This is UK patented and has ‘Foreign Patents Pending’ text.

The Lyric Sheet: MINT(–): printed both sides on quite thin card by Garrod & Lofthouse – this is guaranteed original. An elusive lyric sheet that only came with very early copies and includes the RSLP 6341 catalogue number. Both surfaces ultra clean and fresh with any hint of creasing light and faint. Not seen often, especially like this and an integral part of this classic album.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(+): arguably better. A very fine visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and quite heavily pressed. A copy with very modest plays on all the evidence with any surface traces very light, mostly wispy and faint as seen critically under bright light. A couple of hairlines which show a little more, but no penetrating stylus scratches, viewed in average room light, little even registers. Visually a super record that should please many collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This classic folk-era Joni album plays even above it’s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is an exceptional clean pressing with no tracking issues*, or inherent pressing flaws or rasps. A delicate album with acoustic backing and vocals, so a quality clean pressing with only few careful plays is almost the very minimum requirement for top sound – and this copy delivers. Few available ones will match or outperform this UK first pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played only quite lightly and has been generally well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing of any note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record, the odd sporadic faint tick is nigh-on impossible to avoid on such delicate records. With the majority of originals that surface, most will appears worn and tatty and being honest, unlistenable. This on the other side of the record fence, it was a pure delight to play-grade and looks lovely. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
