Description
JONI MITCHELL Song to a Seagull 1968 UK DEBUT LP This is a very clean UK pressing of Joni Mitchells' self-titled first LP from 1968, sometimes referred to as "Song to a seagull".
First pressings in the UK came with the original Canadian heavy card gatefold sleeve, with fully printed lyrics inside the gatefold. So the cover stated Printed in Canada, whilst the steamboat labels state made in England. The matrix and stampers read: RSLP 6293 A-1*G STEREO/ RSLP6293 B-1*G STEREO
The gatefold sleeve is in EX condition and the record is in EX+ condition.
It was recorded in late 1967 and was released in the UK in March 1968 on the Reprise Label. This album was originally released as Joni Mitchell because the LP album covers were printed incorrectly, cutting off part of the "Song to a Seagull" title (spelled out by birds in flight). The cut-off, as well as the publishers at Reprise Records not noticing the birds spelled out the album name, caused the eponymous album title.
"Song to a Seagull" is a concept album divided into two halves: "I came to the city" and "Out of the city and down to the seaside". (The two halves correspond to the two sides of the LP) which are identified as "Part 1" and "Part 2 on the back cover. All songs were written by Joni Mitchell.
Personnel: Joni Mitchell: guitar, piano, vocals, banshee Stephen Stills: bass on "Night in the City" Lee Keefer: banshee Produced by David Crosby
