IMPORTANT STUFF:

All LP's are strictly visual graded using Goldmine standards (if I have played an LP, I will give a play grading).  I think most people will think that my LPs are in better shape than the grade I give them.  I attribute this to the fact that many people selling LPs on-line tend to be very liberal in the application of a grade.  And the grade 'Near Mint' is so over-used I have virtually lost all confidence that when I do purchase a record graded 'NM' it will actually be Near Mint.  For that reason, I almost never even consider buying a record graded VG+.  I surmise that if a 'NM' record is in actuality 'VG+', I don't even want to consider buying one graded 'VG+' because who knows what its actual condition might be.   It's a fact that a record in NM condition will bring a higher price than one in some lesser condition.  I believe many sellers grade higher because they know that's how they will make the most money.  And you want to know something, I know I could do that too.  But if I have to resort to mis-representing (lying about) the condition of my product in order to sell my product, I personally would rather not bother.  In my opinion this would amount to cheating you out of your money.  First, that's absolutely the wrong thing to do.  Second, I don't like it when it happens to me.  Therefore, I will not do this to you.  OK, I'll get off my soap box now and talk about some vinyl.  Thanks for looking at my auction and good luck if you decide to bid.

GRADING POLICY

The following information was taken directly from the Goldmine Record Grading guide.  (My comments are in parenthesis).

Mint (M) - Absolutely perfect in every way - certainly never played, possibly even still sealed.  (This is a grade I will never use as I don't think there is a perfect record in existance)

Still Sealed (SS) - Let the buyer beware, unless it's a pressing from the last 10 - 15 years or so.  It's too easy to re-seal one.  Yes, some legitimately never-opened LPs from the 1960s still exist, and some of them bring rather fancy prices.  But if you're looking for a specific pressing, the only way you can know for sure is to open the record.  Also, European imports are not factory sealed, so if you see them advertised as sealed, someone other than the manufacturer sealed them.  (If I sell a Still Sealed record, and the buyer desires it, I will open the record after the end of the auction and inspect it.  If I find / suspect that the record was re-sealed, the buyer will be offered right of refusal)

Near Mint (NM) - A nearly perfect record.  The record should show no obvious signs of wear.  An LP jacket should have no creases, folds, seam splits or any other similar defect.  No cut-out holes either.  And of course, the same should be true of any other inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves and the like.  Basically, an LP in Near Mint condition looks as if you just got it home from a retail record store and removed the shrink wrap.  (Notice there is no mention of scratches or scuffs here.  This is a grade I will use sparingly.  If there is ONE scuff or light surface scratch, the record IS NOT Near Mint)

Very Good Plus (VG+) - A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it.  Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience.  Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.  The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable.  The center hole will not have been misshapen by repeated play.  LP inner sleeves will have some slight ring wear, lighlty turned up corners, or a slight seam split.  An LP jacket may also have slight signs of wear and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation or corner indicating it was taken out of print and sold at a discount.  In general, if not for a couple of minor things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint.  All but the most mint-crazy collectors will find a Very Good Plus record highly acceptable.

Very Good (VG) - Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc.  Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise.  Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches [deep enough to feel with a fingernail] that will affect the sound.  Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers [or their residue] attached.  The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers.  However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them.

I try to be as accurate as possible when grading records.  Nothing makes me madder than to buy a record advertised as a particular grade only to find out that the seller was careless or dishonest in his grading and that the record is not as advertised.  I will try my best to make sure this is not the case with my records.  I am extremely picky with what I buy and will be honest when representing the condition of my records.  However, like everyone else, I am human and therefore imperfect.  That said, I can not promise that I will never make a mistake.  In the unlikely event that this happens, I ask that you give me the opportunity to make things right.

In many cases, I will have cleaned the record prior to listing.  I will advise when this is the case.  Records that have been cleaned will have been done on a VPI 16.5 vacuum machine using Record Research Labs Super Deep Cleaner and / or Super Vinyl Wash as a minimum.  All records are examined under a 100 watt incandescent light.  They will also be stored in an anti-static inner sleeve with (usually) a clear plastic outer sleeve.  Records will be packed in record mailers designed for shipping records.  There will be some sort of padding (folded newspaper, cardboard, bubble wrap) on either side of the record cover between the outer sleeve and the inside of the mailer.  In the case of pre-cleaned records, the record will be removed from the cover, left in the inner anti-static sleeve and placed inside the outer plastic cover between the outer plastic cover and the back side of the album cover.  This is done to keep the album from ripping the seams of the album cover or inner sleeve during shipment.  If you would prefer another method, let me know and I will accomodate you if possible.
