The red-tinted version was apparantly more widely distributed. The colors are the result of formulations used for the original pressings, with the purple being the very first pressing. Textured cover. Comes with a printed, textured inner sleeve.

USA TRANSLUCENT PURPLE FIRST PRESSING VINYL LP IN TEXTURED SLEEVE WITH TEXTURED INNER SLEEVE AND ORIGINAL SHRINK WRAP WITH ORIGINAL GREY FACTORY DISTRIBUTION STICKER.

This is the absolute first USA pressing of this Joy Division classic. Of all the different vinyl colorings, the translucent purple was the very first issue. This can only be viewed by holding to a bright light source, but do not go too close to the heat/bulb as this will melt your album! This particular copy has the best condition artwork we have seen for this album since it was released, a magnificent example for once. The US release has completely different card to the UK one and looks magnificent. Seldom will you find a copy with the original outer poly-seal and sticker these days. We have play-tested the US first against the UK first pressing and aurally we really could not tell the difference, the mastering seems to be the same.

MATRIX NUMBERS IN RUN-OFF GROOVES: SIDE A: FAC US 6 A 11142 (3) + [face/hat etching] / SIDE B: FAC US 6 B 11143 (3) + [face/hat etching].

SLEEVE: EXCELLENT MINUS, JUST LIGHTEST OF SHELF, CORNER AND EDGE WEAR. INNER SLEEVE IS EXCELLENT MINUS. OUTER POLY BAG AND STICKER ARE VERY GOOD+.

DISC: EXCELLENT MINUS. NO SCRATCHES AND NO NOTICEABLE SPINDLE WEAR, JUST A FEW LIGHT HAIRLINES AND WAVY LINES THAT ARE IN THE VINYL ITSELF AND ARE NOT DEFECTS - EVERY USA PRESSING WE HAVE SEEN LOOKS LIKE THIS. CLEAN LABELS BOTH SIDES. A SPLENDID PLAYING COPY WITH SUPERB AUDIO. You really are going to have a hard time finding a better condition copy of this title, which should satisfy all but a perfectionist.
