J.R. MONTEROSE J.R. Monterose (Blue Note BLP 1536) RARE US 1st Lexington EX+
Extremely hard-to-find very first US pressing of Frank Monterose`s debut album "J.R. Monterose" on Blue Note Records (1956).
The first of only two albums as a band leader by the itinerant, unsung hero of the tenor saxophone (the other being "The Message", 1959), the Blue Note classic  "J.R. Monterose" has become a highly-sought-after collectors item, especially in such a nice condition. Or, as jazz historian David Johnson once succinctly remarked: "The Best Tenor You Never Heard", indeed!

GRADING:

EX COVER with very reasonable general wear. Please see photos for details.

- Original front-laminated US first pressing sleeve.

- Small blue ink stamp ("O") and sticker "shadow" on rear sleeve (at top right).

- All-around scuffing to the edges, as seen on photos. No seam splits.

- Slight (½ inch) tear to opening edge (at top).

- Also includes the original, custom-printed Blue Note inner sleeve in EX+ condition.


EX++ RECORD, played a few times at most. Minimal bit of wear and superb audio all the way!

- Original deep groove pressing vinyl, 195 grams in weight.

- Very first pressing Blue Note labels with original "167 Lexington Ave NYC" address and minimal spindle wear.

- Minimal background crackle in between tracks, as well as in some quiet passages.

- A few light hairlines, exclusively from sleeve removal.

- A tiny scuff (in "Marc V") is absolutely inaudible.

- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "BN-LP-1536-A" and "BN-LP-1536-B" and include the characteristic small "ear" logo. Signed by "RVG".


PLEASE NOTE: Not to be compared with the more-often-than-not substandard vinyl on offer on eBay, this item is in honestly-graded EX to EX++ condition: You will not find another copy of "J.R. Monterose" as nice as this one - especially at this bargain price. "True value for money" is the motto here!
