Description

J. R. Monterose, self-titled album, issued by Blue Note Records as BLP 1536. Original US mono first pressing with the 767 Lexington Avenue labels and matching Lexington Avenue jacket.

The cover condition is shown in the photos. It’s bad. I won’t even attempt to grade it. The bottom seam has a four inch seam split in spite of the scotch tape, and there is a one inch seam split at the top right. Last but not least, it smells musty.

Flat edge disc, with hand-inscribed matrix numbers and RVG (Rudy Van Gelder) etched (not stamped) in the runout on both sides. The Plastylite “P,” (the “ear),” is stamped in the runout on Side 2 only, which is the correct original configuration for this release. The vinyl shows some loss of sheen. There are a few hairline scratches on each side. The record plays with light wear and occasional light ticks which is below the music level, but can be heard between tracks and on the solos. Hear mp3 samples below. (Played on an Audio Technica LP120 with a Shure M55E cartridge into the phono section of a Yamaha RX-485 receiver, recorded as an mp3 using Cool Edit Pro.)

A rare and highly collectible original Blue Note pressing. The record will be placed in a clean inner sleeve and shipped outside the jacket in a protective outer sleeve, with cardboard stiffeners in a sturdy LP mailer, then that will be double boxed.
