Description
This is an extremely rare and obscure recording of Judy Garland singing 2 songs from the film Pigskin Parade in 1936. She was 14 at the time of this recording. The songs are: "IT'S LOVE I'M AFTER" & "THE TEXAS TORNADO". Garland is backed by full orchestra. The record is a 12-inch one-sided 78 rpm by RCA VICTOR that is embossed on the back with the spider web pattern unique to that time period (see photos). This is a playback recording for studio use only with a hand-typed label. There were only a handful pressed and the songs were never released commercially until The Smithsonian cd box set, Star Spangled Rhythm, was released in 1997. Judy Garland was loaned to 20th Century Fox(the one and only time) by MGM for this, her first appearance in a feature film. Makes this historic record one of her first recordings after she changed her name to Judy Garland, predates her contract with Decca Records, and is 2 years before filming The Wizard Of Oz. The record is in VG condition, plays with some background noise at the beginning of the first song and then plays much clearer after that. Truly a great and unusual Garland collectible from the earliest part of her career.
