JUDY GARLAND
RARE 1961 COLLECTION
Now here’s something really special for your Judy Garland collection – it’s an insider’s advance of “Judy at Carnegie Hall.’ Released on July 10, 1961, this is a special advance pressing from the collection of an (unnamed here) insider at Capitol Records who was on hand for the taping of this historic album.
As you can see, it comes in a special black box, that even has an alternate title, including her last name in the album title: Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall. It’s even got it’s own special number WBO-1569 – which also appears in print on the record labels.
This person was actually AT THE SHOW and you get many extras with this rarely seen pressing. Included here are:
1. Program from Carnegie Hall, for Judy’s performance on April 23, 1961
2. The oversized tour book filled with pictures throughout her career
3. 8 x 10 glossy publicity photograph
4. June 1961 issue of Theatre Magazine with a big cover story about the evening’s show. Whole magazine – not a reprint or excerpt.
5. Letter from Alan W. Livingston, VP of Capitol about the forthcoming release. He writes in part: One can seldom forecast a great moment. For that reason, many never-to-be-duplicated show-business moments have literally gone unrecorded. The night of April 23, 1961, was an exception. It promises to be a legendary one. For when Miss Judy Garland stepped on the Carnegie Hall stage, we of Capitol were there, too. We had come expecting -- as all who know Miss Show Business expect -- a wonderful evening. We left knowing we had heard, and captured for you to hear, perhaps the most significant evening in all show business history.
There were only 3,165 at that show that evening, and only a few kept the program and the tour book, but how many of those few also got the photo, letter, and advance release? Not many at all. Don’t let this unique collection slip by !
