Description
Julie Driscoll 1969 Polydor 2383 077 Super
Driscoll has had a truly amazing career, spanning several genres and decades and always sounding great. This, her first solo lp, bridges two phases of her career: the psych pop success of her tenure with the Brian Auger Trinity (who could forget her “This Wheel’s on Fire,” rerecorded and revived for Absolutely Fabulous) and the jazz/free music she would master in the 70’s with her husband-to-be Keith Tippett. Many of those adventurous musicians show up here: Tippett, Elton Dean, Chris Spedding, Mark Charig, etc. There is also a cut featuring the psych legends Blossom Toes, featuring the vastly underappreciated Jim Cregan, a magnificent guitarist whose own career spanned not only the Toes, but also Family, Cockney Rebel (his solo on “Make Me Smile” can elicit tears from me!) and a long stint with Rod Stewart. This lp has folk-psych elements in the songwriting, but the personnel and Driscoll’s magnificent singing elevate it into something entirely other.
Disc is VG++. Cover has general wear including a name written on front, small stickers on back, and a small sawcut.
After a hiatus, during which we moved and built our Permanentrecords library/vault/watering hole, we are finally up and running as an Ebay seller again. Welcome back to all our old friends and hello to new ones. We’re going to try things a bit differently this time. We will still feature great, rare, obscure, strange and little-known vinyl, but we’ve decided on no reserves and a very low opening bid on even the choicest stuff. We’re hoping that this will keep you coming back to us for the chance at some genuine bargains and maybe even steals, as we allow each item to find its natural price. We are also hoping to expand into some of our other interests in the near future, like vintage clothes and books. We will of course still try to maintain the same high standards of service and customer satisfaction. Good hunting!
