COUNT BASIE AND HIS ORCHESTRA roared out of Kansas City in 1936 with a "swing" attitude and a beat all its own, which quickly and decisively changed and conquered the world of jazz. Just about everything we understand about "Swinging" today originates with this band.
This is the original Basie band, in 1938, with people on board like LESTER YOUNG and HERSCHEL EVANS (tenor saxes), BUCK CLAYTON, (trumpet), BENNY MORTON (trombone), JACK WASHINGTON (baritone sax); and of course the "All-American Rhythm Section," with BASIE (piano), FREDDY GREEN (guitar), WALTER PAGE (string bass) and JO JONES (drums).
They play the influential Basie riff original "JUMPIN' AT THE WOODSIDE" and "DARK RAPTURE," title song of the Universal Picture of the same name. HELEN HUMES, a considerable canary, chirps the lyrics.
This original 1938 blue-label Decca 2212 is in immaculate EE+ condition. A few rubs, a beautiful copy.
