Description

JACK LORD ESTATE — "DIRTY DANCING" ACADEMY AWARDS CAMPAIGN MAILING
From the personal property of Jack Lord (1920–1998), star of Hawaii Five-O, with First Hawaiian Bank estate documentation.
WHAT THIS IS
In late 1987, Vestron Pictures mailed "For Your Consideration" campaign packages to voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, promoting "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" for Best Original Song. The mailing went only to Academy voters — it was never sold, never distributed to the public, and most were discarded. The song won the Oscar at the 60th Academy Awards in April 1988.
This is Jack Lord's copy. Lord held Academy voting membership through his feature film work, including Dr. No (1962), God's Little Acre (1958), and Man of the West (1958).
INCLUDED
1. Original Vestron Pictures campaign letter on Dirty Dancing letterhead, addressed    "Dear Academy Member," signed in facsimile by Executive Producer Mitchell Cannold.    Single page. Light age toning, no tears.
2. Original RCA promotional 45 rpm single, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," Bill    Medley and Jennifer Warnes, in picture sleeve.
3. ORIGINAL First Hawaiian Bank estate letter dated December 1, 2006, signed by    Chuen Ying Lee, Assistant Vice President, Wealth Management Group / Personal    Trust, confirming the property belonged to Jack and Marie Lord. First Hawaiian    Bank administered the Lord estate, and letters of this exact form have accompanied    Jack Lord estate material sold at major auction houses.
PLEASE NOTE
The bank letter is item #2711 3987 3898 and lists three records, of which "The Time of My Life" is one. The other two titles are not included in this sale. The original bank letter conveys with this lot. The campaign letter is a standard Academy mailing and is not personally addressed to Lord; the bank letter is what establishes his ownership.
The mailing may have originally included an audiocassette, which is not present.
Acquired directly from the Jack Lord estate dispersal in 2012. Sold as-is. Ships insured with tracking, packed flat between boards.
