Jack O'Leary is a phenomenon who, till his arrival at the scene of stardom, had a rise to popularity hitherto only read about in the American news. Born Melbourne, 1930, his first break in Show Business came at the age of 13 in a show at Melbourne's Comedy Theatre, with Edwin Styles, in "The Man Who Came To Dinner." Previously he had only appeared on talent shows, his age at the beginning being six. At 19, during the war, he appeared at numerous concert party shows singing in the jazz-idiom. An appearance at Earl's Court with Freddie Thomas and his Orchestra brought instantaneous success. At this time he also became a regular guest at the then-famous "Jump Club", which featured the Alan Rhodes Quintette. Joining the Bruce Kennett Orchestra at Ziegfeld's Ballroom, he packed the hall with fans for a long period. In Sydney he appeared at the Celebrity Club, Forest Inn, Andre's ect., with great success. He returned to Melbourne for an engagement with Bruce Kennett's Orchestra at Leggatts. The cover photo was taken at the Planet Show, "Up Among The Stars", at the National Theatre, Launceston, when a plane full of Planet artists and Orchestras did a season there recently. Truly the tag "Voice Of Excitement" was never more aptly chosen, for his first recording dates have kept that terrific personality that has made him as much in the hearts of the teenager masses as Johnny Ray, Frankie Laine, etc.
