Description
Jackie Opel –‘I Am What I Am’ / Jackie Mittoo & The Skatalites ‘Devil’s Bug’ – Rio 117 (UK)
Bajan singer Jackie Opel needs no introduction, his is one of the greatest voices ever to come out of the Caribbean, and ‘I Am What I Am,’ a gorgeous ska tune bordering on rocksteady, released in 1967, is one of his finest recordings. The flip is a magnificent instrumental featuring Jackie Mittoo and The Skatalites, as far as I know not available elsewhere.
Both sides are Studio One productions of the highest order; here they are in arguably their most attractive form, back-to-back on a rare British Rio single. Clips from both sides below:
Condition: VG+ (some scuffs and a few marks that cause a couple of mild clicks; nothing too serious). While UK Rio did not always offer top-notch pressing quality, this is about as good as it gets where this item is concerned. Please check the clips and judge for yourself. Clean labels, displaying only a little ring wear, particularly on the Jackie Mittoo side (please see scans).
Please reply within three days after auction close. Payment via Paypal expected within seven days.
Shipping: $6.50 within Europe; $8.00 rest of the world. Registered and insured shipping is an additional $13.00. Please contact me for combined shipping rates.
As this is a very scarce item, winner is to pay for shipping via registered post. Will not be held responsible for uninsured shipping.
Happy to answer any questions. Please see my other reggae and rocksteady auctions.
