Blue Station Jazz: Reference Audit Report

Jaco Pastorius – Self-Titled (Epic PE 33949) Early 1980s Columbia Carrollton ("CBS GA") Pressing

At Blue Station Jazz, we provide "Reference Grade" vinyl audits on a J. Sikora Standard Max turntable with a DS Audio optical cartridge. We believe in total transparency regarding how a specific pressing performs on a high-fidelity system.

Surface Quietness / Playback Background: [VG+] Our audit confirms a generally clean playback experience; however, we noted some random, non-repeating pops and clicks throughout both sides. While the background remains relatively quiet for a 1980s repress, it is not "dead silent," and these artifacts are present during the listening session.

Sonic Fidelity / Mastering Presence: [C] Despite the high-grade condition of the vinyl, the mastering on this specific CBS Carrollton run is notably restricted. The presentation lacks the soundstage width expected of a stereo fusion recording, leaning heavily toward a monaural character. It is dynamically compressed with a flatter sonic profile than original 1976 pressings. We have graded this a C to ensure the buyer understands the specific engineering limitations of this version.

Jacket Condition: Graded VG+. Please note slight wrinkling on the front cover, typical slight wear on all four corners, and ring wear on the back cover.
